FFM – News Nagasaki is one sister universities of Universitas Airlangga which have already performed some cooperation with Faculty of Fisheries and Marine. This university is well known as the university that has a very good fisheries and marine studies. In between 15-18 October 2019, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine invited Professor Fumito Isibashi (Professor of Marine Chemistry) for the second time where in this recent visit Professor Fumito Isibashi performed some activities namely strategic meeting with faculty’s leaders, international guest lectures and industrial visit.
Prof. Isibashi said that Surabaya and UNAIR has a significant change, compared to seven years ago. Indeed, Universitas Airlangga continuously improves their performance and of course Surabaya has also improved and made up their city to a more exquisite city. On 16 October 2019, Prof. Isibashi was welcomed by all leaders of Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Universitas Airlangga and then gave a lecture on Chemistry and Biological Activity of Marine Natural Products which was addressed to a group of students taking a course on coralogy. On 17 October 2019, Prof Isibashi visited PT. Kappa Carrageenan Nusantara (KCN), a well-established carrageenan company in Indonesia located in Pasuruan. Prof Isibashi was accompanied by Faculty Ambassador and students to visit that company, where the visit was directly guided by the director of PT.KCN (Mr. Hamzah). Hamzah has well explained the guest on the production scenario and technology in carrageenan and agar production, He took the guests to look around the production unit and demonstrated what they have collaborated with Universitas Airlangga.
On the last day (18 October 2019), Prof. Isibashi gave two lectures for undergraduate students taking course on marine biology and another lecture for master students. The course was about Syntesis, Isolation and Biological Activity of Natural Products. Students said that the lectures were highly interesting and some students were interested in performing their final project under Professor Fumito Isibashi’s supervision. Of course Prof Isibashi welcomed those who were interested in since Nagasaki University and Universitas Airlangga has a very good friendship.
