Surabaya – The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Airlangga (FPK UNAIR), has once again demonstrated its academic excellence through the remarkable achievement of one of its students. Fitroh Ghoniyyu Yahya, an Aquaculture student specializing in Marine Science and Technology from the 2023 cohort, successfully secured the prestigious Djarum Scholarship 2025 after undergoing a rigorous and highly competitive selection process. This accomplishment highlights the strong commitment of FPK UNAIR students to continuously develop their potential and compete at the national level. It also reflects the faculty’s supportive academic environment, which encourages students to pursue excellence not only in academics but also in leadership and personal development.
Fitroh’s journey toward achieving the scholarship was marked by perseverance and resilience. Prior to this success, he had experienced rejection four times from various scholarship programs. However, these setbacks did not discourage him; instead, they became valuable learning experiences that strengthened his determination. He firmly believes that failure is not the end, but rather an essential part of growth. His courage to keep trying and continuously improve himself became the foundation of his eventual success. Fitroh first learned about the Djarum Scholarship through the program’s official social media platforms. After ensuring that he met all the requirements, he carefully prepared himself for each stage of the selection process, which included administrative screening, written examinations, and interviews. During the interview stage, he highlighted his leadership experience as the Head of the Aquaculture Student Association in 2025, demonstrating his strong managerial skills and sense of responsibility within an organizational setting.
In addition to his active involvement in student organizations, Fitroh also demonstrated an impressive ability to balance academic responsibilities with entrepreneurial activities. His effective time management skills played a crucial role in maintaining this balance, allowing him to excel in multiple areas simultaneously. This achievement illustrates that success in higher education is not solely determined by academic performance but also by the ability to develop relevant soft skills and real-world competencies. The Djarum Scholarship provides significant benefits beyond financial support, offering structured programs such as character building, leadership development, and community empowerment. These opportunities are essential in shaping students into future leaders who are not only intellectually capable but also socially responsible and adaptive to changing global demands.

Fitroh’s achievement aligns closely with FPK UNAIR’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), which emphasizes access to quality education and the development of human potential. His success also serves as a source of inspiration for fellow students, demonstrating how a supportive academic ecosystem can empower individuals to seize opportunities at the national level. To further support student achievements, the faculty actively facilitates access to scholarship information through a structured and comprehensive system. The Student Welfare Department plays a key role in curating and disseminating scholarship opportunities from various sources, ensuring that students receive accurate and timely information through both digital and conventional channels.
Moreover, FPK UNAIR consistently organizes educational programs such as webinars and alumni sharing sessions to equip students with the knowledge and strategies needed to succeed in scholarship applications. One notable event was the alumni sharing session held on February 28, 2026, which featured FPK UNAIR alumni who successfully pursued international studies. These initiatives provide valuable insights and motivation for students to better prepare themselves for global academic opportunities. At the organizational level, student bodies within FPK UNAIR also contribute significantly by establishing departments focused on student advocacy and welfare. These departments actively gather, manage, and distribute scholarship information through various digital platforms, creating a collaborative and supportive ecosystem for student development.
Through this continuous support system, FPK UNAIR aims to encourage more students to take initiative, develop their potential, and pursue scholarship opportunities both nationally and internationally. Such efforts not only enhance individual student quality but also strengthen the competitiveness of FPK UNAIR graduates on a broader scale. Fitroh’s success stands as a testament to the power of persistence, preparation, and institutional support in achieving academic excellence and making meaningful contributions to society.
