The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Airlangga, successfully held the Aquapreneur Summit: Aquaculture Innovation & Fisheries Entrepreneurship on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Rooms C701–702, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Airlangga. The event brought together students, alumni, and industry practitioners to discuss innovation and entrepreneurial opportunities in the fisheries and aquaculture sector. Organized collaboratively by the Aquaculture Student Association and the Student Scientific Study Community, the summit aimed to enhance students’ knowledge, practical insight, and entrepreneurial interest in sustainable aquaculture development.
The event officially started at 08.00 AM WIB and was attended by students from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Airlangga, as well as student delegates from the Aquaculture Study Program of Universitas Negeri Surabaya and Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Ampel. Through a combination of keynote seminars, interactive talk shows, and discussion sessions, participants were encouraged to explore current issues, technological innovation, and business opportunities within the fisheries industry. The program was designed to provide comprehensive academic and professional perspectives while maintaining a conducive and comfortable learning atmosphere for all participants.
The first keynote session focused on innovation in aquaculture, modern cultivation technology, and environmentally sustainable fisheries management. The session was delivered by Muhammad Hadi, S.Pi., an alumnus of the Aquaculture Study Program at Universitas Airlangga class of 2002, who currently works as a Vannamei Shrimp Cultivation Technician. During the presentation, participants were introduced to modern aquaculture practices and the importance of sustainable management systems in increasing productivity while preserving environmental balance. The discussion also highlighted the challenges and opportunities faced by the aquaculture industry in adapting to technological advancement and market demands.
The second session was presented by Dyo Maliki Hakim, S.Pi., an alumnus of the Aquaculture Study Program at Universitas Airlangga class of 2010 and currently serving as Area Head of Shrimp Feed Technical Partner East Java 1 at PT. Central Proteina Prima Tbk. The session discussed business opportunities in the fisheries sector and strategic approaches to developing fisheries-based enterprises, particularly for young entrepreneurs and beginner business actors. Participants gained practical insights into market trends, business development strategies, and the importance of innovation in building competitive fisheries enterprises. The speaker also encouraged students to develop entrepreneurial mindsets and maximize the potential of Indonesia’s fisheries resources through sustainable business initiatives.
Following the presentations, the event continued with a talk show and interactive discussion session, allowing participants to directly engage with the speakers. The discussion became highly interactive and productive, with many participants asking technical questions regarding cultivation systems, business management, and fisheries entrepreneurship. The speakers responded with practical experiences and applicable solutions that enriched participants’ understanding of both the technical and entrepreneurial aspects of aquaculture. This interaction was expected to inspire students to implement innovative ideas and prepare themselves to establish businesses in the fisheries and aquaculture sector in the future.
Through this activity, participants not only obtained academic knowledge and professional experience but also expanded their networks with alumni, practitioners, and fellow students from various universities. The collaboration established during the event is expected to become valuable social capital for future cooperation and innovation in fisheries and aquaculture development. In addition, the activity reflects the commitment of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Airlangga, in supporting student competency development through collaborative academic programs that integrate science, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
The Aquapreneur Summit: Aquaculture Innovation & Fisheries Entrepreneurship also supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 17, Partnerships for the Goals, through the external collaboration established among students, alumni, industry practitioners, and university delegates from different institutions. The involvement of various stakeholders strengthened networking and cooperation in exchanging knowledge, experience, and innovation related to aquaculture and fisheries development. Through this synergy, the activity is expected to encourage sustainable collaboration that contributes to the advancement and competitiveness of Indonesia’s fisheries sector in the future.
