Fisheries Resource Management: A Molecular Approach to the collection of Genetic Information


Management of coastal areas and water resources is one of the important activities that must be carried out continuously. There are three parts to the concept of sustainable management, namely social, economic and environmental aspects that must be balanced. One of the important components in the environmental aspect is the existence of management support data in the form of genetic information. Through the research that has been done by Dr. eng. Sapto Andriyono, genetic data is important information that becomes basic information that can be used in various aspects.

The material was delivered by Dr. eng. Sapto Andriyono at the Webinar of the Faculty of Fisheries, Lamongan Islamic University on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 starting at 09.00-12.30 WIB. This Webinar activity also brought speakers from KKP, Undip and Unisla Fisheries Faculty Lecturers. Until the event ended, the participants were very enthusiastic and interested in the materials presented by the resource persons.

As part of SDGs No. 14 Life Below water, fishery activities also provide food ingredients that also support SDG no. 4, namely supporting food ingredients from fish protein sources. With good management of the fisheries sector, it is hoped that the community’s food sources from fishery products can be fulfilled in a sustainable manner. “One of our roles that can contribute to the management of coastal resources is to carry out genetic conservation of the fishery resources,” said Sapto during the discussion. He also continued to open collaborations in conducting studies on fishery resources through a molecular approach towards the concept of sustainable fish resource management.
