Discovering Personal Potential through FISHPATH
On August 15, 2026, the Student Welfare Division of HIMATEKHIKAN held the Fisheries Career Path (FISHPATH), an educational seminar at the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine, Universitas Airlangga (FPK UNAIR). The activity was organized to help new Fisheries Product Technology (THP) students recognize their personal potential, interests, and talents as a foundation for identifying their passions and preparing their future career paths.
The Fisheries Career Path seminar featured Defia Putri Mahardika, S.Pi. as the speaker, who discussed self-potential, interests, talents, and the role of extracurricular activities in shaping students’ passions and career plans. Through the seminar, new students were encouraged to explore various opportunities for developing their interests throughout their university journey, including through internships, organizational activities, research, and professional experiences.
Expanding Students’ Perspectives on Potential and Career Development
Fisheries Career Path (FISHPATH) is an annual program organized by the Student Welfare Division of HIMATEKHIKAN. This year, the seminar carried the theme “How to Discover Your Potential, Interests, and Talents to Plan Your Future Career.” The event began with an opening session, followed by the singing of Indonesia Raya and the Airlangga Hymn, as well as remarks from Dwitha Nirmala, S.Pi., M.Si., as the HIMATEKHIKAN faculty advisor, Annisa Mutiara as the organizing committee chair, the Head of the Student Welfare Department, and the Chairperson of HIMATEKHIKAN.
The main session was delivered by Defia Putri Mahardika, S.Pi., who explained strategies for recognizing and maximizing personal potential, interests, and talents in developing a career path. The presentation was delivered interactively and through personal narratives, drawing from experiences in university life, student organizations, research, and outbound mobility programs in several Asian countries, including Malaysia and Thailand. These experiences provided students with an overview of how personal potential can be continuously developed at different stages of university life.
The session continued with an engaging question-and-answer discussion. Students actively raised questions about time management, internship opportunities and information, challenges of adapting to life abroad, as well as opportunities to participate in short mobility programs and student exchanges. The activity concluded with the presentation of a certificate to the speaker by the organizing committee chair, followed by a group photo session.
Encouraging Career Readiness among New Students
The Fisheries Career Path (FISHPATH) seminar represents HIMATEKHIKAN’s contribution to developing higher-quality human resources while supporting SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. The activity is expected to provide new THP students with valuable insights and motivation to better understand themselves and begin preparing their career plans in response to various challenges in the future.
This initial step is expected to encourage students to continuously develop their abilities, pursue achievements, and build confidence as they prepare to enter the professional world after university.
