Surabaya – The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPK) at Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) continues to strengthen its international academic network through strategic partnerships with leading institutions worldwide. One of the latest initiatives was marked by the visit of a delegation from National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST), Taiwan, held on Thursday (4/6/2026) at FPK UNAIR.
The visit commenced with a strategic meeting that brought together FPK UNAIR leaders and faculty members with the NPUST delegation led by Prof. Dr. Yu-Hung Lin. The meeting served as an important platform to reinforce institutional relations while exploring potential collaborations in fisheries, marine sciences, and aquaculture research and education.
FPK UNAIR’s Commitment to Internationalization
During the meeting, Annur Ahadi Abdillah, S.Pi., M.Si., Ph.D., Vice Dean III of FPK UNAIR, accompanied by Dwi Yuli Pujiastuti, S.Pi., M.Si., and several faculty members, warmly welcomed the delegation from Taiwan. On this occasion, Annur presented an overview of FPK UNAIR, highlighting its academic programs, learning facilities, research activities, and various international initiatives that have been implemented by the faculty.
The presentation reflected FPK UNAIR’s commitment to advancing higher education internationalization through global partnerships that provide meaningful benefits for students, academic staff, and the institution as a whole. Existing student mobility programs also emerged as one of the key topics of interest during discussions between the two institutions.
The meeting was conducted in a constructive and interactive atmosphere, allowing both parties to exchange perspectives on higher education development, challenges facing the global fisheries sector, and opportunities for future collaborative research.
Creating Opportunities for Global Research Collaboration
Beyond serving as an introductory forum, the strategic meeting became a platform for discussing broader collaboration opportunities. Several strategic topics were explored, including sustainable aquaculture development, modern fisheries technologies, feed innovation, and academic exchange programs for students and faculty members.
International collaboration has become increasingly important in addressing complex global challenges such as food security, climate change, and the sustainable management of aquatic resources. Through this partnership, FPK UNAIR and NPUST aim to generate innovations that contribute meaningfully to society and the global fisheries industry.
For students, partnerships of this nature provide greater access to international academic experiences through student exchange programs, joint research initiatives, and opportunities for further study abroad. Such exposure is expected to enhance students’ global competencies and prepare them for careers in an increasingly interconnected world.
Supporting the Sustainable Development Goals
The strategic meeting between FPK UNAIR and NPUST also aligns with both institutions’ commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Cross-border collaboration in education and research contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by enhancing learning quality and expanding access to international academic networks.
Furthermore, the partnership supports SDG 14 (Life Below Water) through the advancement of research and innovation in sustainable fisheries and marine sciences. Equally important, the collaboration embodies SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by strengthening international cooperation to address global sustainability challenges.
Through this strategic engagement, FPK UNAIR once again reaffirms its commitment to becoming an internationally connected higher education institution. The collaboration with NPUST is expected to serve as the foundation for future joint programs that expand academic opportunities, enhance research excellence, and strengthen FPK UNAIR’s position within the global higher education and research landscape.
