Surabaya – The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Airlangga (FPK UNAIR), organized a Pre-Graduation Briefing for Bachelor’s and Master’s candidates of the April 2026 period on Friday, April 10, 2026. The program marked a strategic initiative to ensure that graduates are fully equipped to enter the professional world with global competitiveness, strong integrity, and a clear commitment to advancing sustainable marine and fisheries sectors.
Held on the FPK UNAIR campus, the event brought together all prospective graduates from undergraduate (S1) and master’s (S2) programs. The agenda included welcoming remarks from faculty leaders, a career preparation session delivered by the UNAIR Career Center and Alumni Impact Center (PKKA), an alumni sharing session highlighting professional industry experiences, and an award ceremony recognizing outstanding and high-achieving graduates of the April 2026 period. The program was designed not only as a ceremonial preparation before commencement, but also as a comprehensive platform to bridge academic achievement with real-world professional demands.
Dean of FPK UNAIR, Prof. Dr. Endang Dewi Masithah, Ir., M.P., officially opened the session and emphasized that the pre-graduation briefing represents a strategic step in strengthening graduate readiness before entering professional environments. She underlined that FPK UNAIR graduates are expected to excel not only academically but also in character, integrity, work ethic, and commitment to the sustainable management of marine resources. According to her, the dynamic development of the fisheries and marine sectors requires adaptive, innovative, and environmentally responsible professionals who are able to respond to global challenges. The Chairperson of the FPK UNAIR Alumni Association (IKA FPK UNAIR) also delivered remarks, encouraging graduates to maintain strong alumni networks and foster sustainable collaboration with their alma mater and industry partners. Such collaboration, she noted, plays a crucial role in expanding career opportunities while strengthening graduates’ contributions across diverse sectors.
The first main session was delivered by Rima Firdaus, M.Hum., representing the UNAIR Career Center and Alumni Impact Center (PKKA). In her presentation, she outlined practical strategies for entering the job market, including crafting effective curricula vitae, building strong personal branding, and optimizing professional networking platforms to broaden career prospects. She highlighted that higher education graduates must possess a balanced combination of hard skills and soft skills. Communication abilities, leadership capacity, adaptability to change, and resilience in facing industrial dynamics are essential competencies in today’s increasingly competitive global landscape. By integrating academic excellence with professional preparedness, FPK UNAIR continues to align its educational mission with workforce demands and industry relevance.
The second session featured Khusnul Habibi, S.Pi., an FPK UNAIR alumnus currently serving as General Manager – Fish Operations at PT. Kaia Anugerah Indonesia. Drawing from his professional journey in the seafood industry, he shared insights on production management, quality control systems, and operational challenges encountered in the field. He stressed that the fisheries sector plays a strategic role in supporting global food security and ensuring sustainable marine resource management. This perspective resonates with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 14 (Life Below Water), which emphasizes marine ecosystem conservation, and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), which promotes strengthening food systems through fisheries-based production. He reminded graduates that career success is not achieved instantly, but through continuous learning, consistency, and integrity—values that are essential in building long-term professional credibility.
During the event, FPK UNAIR also presented awards to the best and high-achieving graduates of the April 2026 period. At the undergraduate level, the Best Graduate awards were presented to Akbar Maulana Saputra (Aquaculture) with a GPA of 3.60 and a study period of 3 years and 6 months, and Khansa Ilma Nafi’ah (Fisheries Product Technology) with a GPA of 3.55 and a study period of 3 years and 4 months. At the master’s level, the Best Graduate award was earned by Cut Syarifah Zahara (Master’s Program in Fisheries and Marine Biotechnology) with an outstanding GPA of 3.98 and a study period of 1 year and 5 months. Meanwhile, High Achievement Graduate awards were granted to Arya Dinda Dewangga Mujiatno (Aquaculture), Adinda Afifah (Fisheries Product Technology), and Husnan Yusuf Latua (Aquaculture). Through this comprehensive pre-graduation program, FPK UNAIR reaffirmed its commitment to producing career-ready, professional, and socially responsible graduates who contribute meaningfully to the sustainable development of marine and fisheries sectors at both national and global levels.
