Surabaya, September 19, 2025 – The Semi-Autonomous Scientific Study Organization (Badan Semi Otonom Kajian Keilmiahan Mahasiswa) of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPK), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), through its Division of Scientific and Professional Development (KPP), successfully organized its annual flagship program — the National Seminar 2025. The event took place on Sunday, from 08.00 to 13.30 WIB, at the Candradimuka Auditorium, located on the 9th floor of the Shared Lecture Building, Campus C UNAIR. Carrying the theme “Safeguarding Waters: Innovative Collaboration in Eco-Friendly Aquaculture,” this seminar served as an interdisciplinary forum for students, academics, and professionals to discuss sustainable innovation and environmental preservation within the aquaculture industry.
The seminar featured three distinguished speakers: Mr. Prayogo, S.Pi., M.P., Dr. Rizkiy Amaliyah Barakwan, S.T., and Mr. Muhammad Syarif Satriyo Samudra, S.Pi., each presenting insightful topics related to environmental innovation, aquaculture management, and sustainable production systems.
Mr. Prayogo delivered a presentation titled “Implementation of Aquaponic Systems as the Key Toward Zero-Waste Aquaculture,” emphasizing the integration of aquaculture and hydroponic farming to optimize water use, minimize waste, and enhance productivity.
Following this, Dr. Rizkiy Amaliyah Barakwan shared her topic “Blue Revolution through Technology for Optimal Water Quality,” which discussed the role of digital innovation and smart monitoring systems in maintaining ecosystem balance and improving aquaculture efficiency.
Meanwhile, Mr. Muhammad Syarif Satriyo Samudra delivered a presentation on “Bioremediation & Beyond: The Multifunctional Role of Seaweed in Eco-Friendly Ecosystems,” highlighting how seaweed cultivation contributes to nutrient cycling, pollution reduction, and sustainable coastal development.
The National Seminar 2025 was held in collaboration with the Career Festival 2025, one of the annual flagship programs of the Student Executive Board (BEM) FPK UNAIR. This collaboration provided participants with opportunities not only to gain scientific insights but also to expand their professional networks, aligning academic development with future career readiness. The event successfully drew enthusiastic participation from students, researchers, lecturers, and practitioners in the fields of fisheries, marine sciences, and sustainable technology.
Throughout the session, attendees actively engaged in discussions, exchanging perspectives on the future of sustainable aquaculture, the integration of biotechnology and environmental conservation, and the importance of multi-sector collaboration in addressing global marine challenges. The dynamic dialogue among participants demonstrated a strong commitment from young academics to contribute to environmental innovation and responsible fisheries management.
Through this national seminar, FPK UNAIR reaffirmed its dedication to fostering scientific literacy, applied research, and sustainability-oriented education. By merging theoretical knowledge with real-world challenges, this event encouraged students to develop innovative thinking and contribute solutions to pressing environmental issues. The success of this seminar also reflected UNAIR’s broader mission of empowering youth to become agents of change for sustainable development in Indonesia’s fisheries and marine sectors.
