The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPK) at Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has officially signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC), marking a strategic step to enhance international collaboration in education, research, and community engagement. This partnership is expected to foster academic excellence, joint research initiatives, and meaningful societal contributions.

The signing ceremony of the MoA signifies a formal commitment between FPK UNAIR and SEAFDEC to strengthen cooperation across multiple areas of fisheries and marine sciences. The scope of collaboration outlined in the agreement includes faculty, administrative staff, and student exchanges; joint research projects; research sharing initiatives; collaborative community service programs; and other forms of partnership mutually agreed upon. By creating these avenues of cooperation, both institutions aim to enhance the quality of academic programs while simultaneously addressing regional and global challenges in sustainable fisheries and marine management.

During the event, the Dean of FPK UNAIR, [Dean’s Name], expressed his appreciation for SEAFDEC’s trust and visit, emphasizing the strategic importance of this partnership. “We warmly welcome this collaboration as a major opportunity to elevate academic standards, expand research networks, and provide tangible benefits to society through the synergy between our institutions,” he stated. The Dean also highlighted that the MoA serves as a platform to integrate innovative research with practical solutions that support sustainable fisheries development, capacity building, and knowledge transfer across Southeast Asia.

Representatives from SEAFDEC conveyed their enthusiasm for the partnership, citing aligned visions and missions in advancing fisheries and marine science across the region. They emphasized that cooperation with FPK UNAIR will enable both organizations to maximize resources, exchange expertise, and jointly tackle challenges related to environmental sustainability, technological innovation, and community-based fisheries management. The collaboration is also expected to facilitate the sharing of best practices, support policy development, and strengthen regional academic networks.

Through this strategic MoA, both FPK UNAIR and SEAFDEC aim to achieve their respective academic and capacity development goals, while reinforcing their roles as institutions committed to sustainable fisheries and marine resource management. By leveraging shared knowledge and joint initiatives, the partnership is anticipated to contribute not only to academic excellence but also to community empowerment and regional sustainability objectives. This collaboration exemplifies the potential of international partnerships in fostering innovation, enhancing human resources, and promoting responsible stewardship of marine ecosystems.
