The Islamic Spiritual Unit (Sie Kerohanian Islam/SKI) of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPK), Universitas Airlangga, organized the “OASE Berbagi 3” social service event on Sunday (September 28, 2025). The activity took place at Darussalam Orphanage in Mulyorejo, Surabaya, and aimed to spread kindness, compassion, and a spirit of community service among students.
According to Febrian Pratama, the person in charge of the event, OASE has become a continuous humanitarian initiative held throughout the year. Initially launched as a donation program during the holy month of Ramadan, the OASE series focuses on providing aid to orphaned children while nurturing empathy and generosity among volunteers and the surrounding community. “Through this activity, we invited the children from the orphanage to play fun games such as rubber racing, picture guessing, and tote bag coloring. At the end of the event, we also distributed basic food packages as donations to the orphanage,” explained Febrian.
He emphasized that university students should not only focus on academics but also embrace social responsibility as part of their community service. The activity, he said, serves as a reminder that compassion and togetherness are essential values in shaping socially responsible graduates. The event was not only a joyful occasion for the children but also a meaningful learning experience for the volunteers to understand the importance of giving back to society.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Nuril Jazuli, the event coordinator, reported that the event was attended by 25 children from Darussalam Orphanage. The orphanage was chosen because its residents are children within the target age range of the program’s activities. “The warm and cooperative atmosphere, along with its strategic location, made this orphanage the ideal partner for OASE. These values align well with the principles upheld by SKI FPK UNAIR,” Jazuli said.
He further added that the donations were collected from lecturers, students, and members of the public. The team hoped that the assistance would help meet the daily needs of the children and the orphanage management, while also inspiring gratitude and generosity among the students. The OASE Berbagi program continues to reflect FPK UNAIR’s commitment to community empowerment and social awareness through meaningful, student-driven initiatives that embody Universitas Airlangga’s spirit of humanity and service.
