Surabaya – The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine (FPK) Universitas Airlangga officially welcomed 275 new students during the opening of the 2026 Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) on Wednesday (August 5, 2026). The event marked the beginning of the students’ journey into higher education while introducing them to the academic environment, institutional values, and the faculty’s commitment to developing future leaders in fisheries and marine sciences.
More than an orientation program, PKKMB serves as a platform to cultivate integrity, lifelong learning, and academic excellence. Through this annual event, FPK Universitas Airlangga reaffirmed its mission to prepare graduates who possess not only strong scientific competence but also leadership, professionalism, and a commitment to sustainable development.
Dean Inspires Students with the Spirit of Frontier for the Future
The opening ceremony was held in a warm and enthusiastic atmosphere, attended by the Dean of FPK Universitas Airlangga, members of the faculty leadership, lecturers, educational staff, and other members of the academic community who warmly welcomed the new students.
In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Endang Dewi Masithah, Ir., M.P., Dean of FPK Universitas Airlangga, emphasized that pursuing higher education is not merely about earning a degree but also about developing character, integrity, and the capacity to become lifelong learners who contribute meaningfully to society.
Introducing the faculty’s new slogan, “Frontier for the Future,” Prof. Endang encouraged students to become a generation capable of addressing future challenges through knowledge, innovation, and collaboration.
“You are here not merely to earn a degree. Be humble learners, honest researchers, courageous innovators, and individuals who always create positive impacts wherever you are,” Prof. Endang stated.
His message reflects the faculty’s vision of producing graduates who excel academically while demonstrating leadership, professional ethics, and a strong commitment to advancing sustainable fisheries and marine development.
The PKKMB program also serves as an important opportunity for students to become familiar with the academic culture of Universitas Airlangga and the core values upheld by the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine.

Beyond introducing the faculty environment, PKKMB familiarizes new students with various academic opportunities, including research, community engagement, student achievements, and personal development programs available throughout their studies.
During his speech, Prof. Endang reminded students that knowledge is constantly evolving, making curiosity and continuous learning essential qualities for every university student.
“The wider the ocean we explore, the more we realize that what we have yet to learn is far greater than what we already know. Therefore, never be afraid to ask questions, never be ashamed to learn, and never lose your curiosity,” he said.
The inspiring message is expected to strengthen students’ readiness to adapt to university life, which requires independence, creativity, and critical thinking skills.
The implementation of PKKMB 2026 also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), by fostering collaboration among members of the academic community to build an inclusive and impactful learning ecosystem.
