The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Fakultas Perikanan dan Kelautan Universitas Airlangga (FPK UNAIR), organized a talk show titled “Kuliah ke Luar Negeri: Real Talk, No Flex” on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Room B 304, Building B, FPK UNAIR. The event featured FPK UNAIR alumnus Mohamad Akmal Alwi Husein, S.Pi., a former awardee of the Erasmus+ Scholarship at Çukurova University, Turkey, and a recipient of the MoE Scholarship for the International Master Program in Marine Biotechnology and Ecology Environmental Sustainability at National Taiwan Ocean University (NTOU).
The session was designed as an honest and practical sharing forum about the process of pursuing graduate studies abroad. Through his presentation, the speaker outlined academic preparation stages, scholarship application strategies, and an overview of international student life in Taiwan.
The talk show aimed to provide comprehensive insight into master’s degree opportunities abroad, particularly in marine science and biotechnology. The speaker emphasized that studying overseas is attainable through well-structured academic planning, research consistency, and readiness in both mindset and language skills.
The event was attended by students from various study programs within FPK UNAIR. Participants demonstrated strong enthusiasm through active discussions and questions during the session. Topics covered included administrative requirements, study plan preparation strategies, and the importance of building academic networks since undergraduate years.
The master’s program undertaken at NTOU focuses on marine biotechnology and environmental sustainability. This field is closely aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14 (Life Below Water), particularly in strengthening research and innovation to protect marine ecosystems sustainably.
This activity aimed to enhance international scholarship literacy and encourage students’ preparedness for global selection processes. Participants gained insights into overseas education systems, cultural adaptation challenges, and early planning strategies for postgraduate studies.
One participant stated that the event provided realistic perspectives on scholarship selection and academic life abroad. Another noted that the material helped map out concrete steps to prepare during their undergraduate studies at FPK UNAIR.
The event reflects FPK UNAIR’s commitment to supporting educational internationalization and strengthening student capacity in marine sciences.
