The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Airlangga (FPK UNAIR), enlivened the holy month of Ramadan through the Gebyar Ramadhan FPK UNAIR 2026, featuring the Ramadan Bazaar as one of its flagship programs. Organized by the Student Executive Board (BEM FPK UNAIR), the bazaar was held at the faculty courtyard and served as a vibrant platform for fostering togetherness among the academic community while promoting a spirit of sharing during the blessed month. The initiative reflects the faculty’s commitment to integrating social values within campus activities, creating a meaningful space where students, lecturers, and staff can connect beyond academic routines.
The Ramadan Bazaar was conducted alongside an Islamic study session featuring Ustadz Ahmad Syauqi, S.Hum., M.Si., which further enriched the spiritual atmosphere of the event. During the program, the organizing committee provided a variety of food and beverages for participants attending the study session and for those breaking their fast together. This integration of religious reflection and communal dining strengthened the sense of unity among participants. More than simply offering iftar meals, the bazaar functioned as a medium to cultivate empathy, reinforce social awareness, and encourage active participation in community-oriented initiatives within the campus environment. The lively yet harmonious atmosphere demonstrated how spiritual and social activities can be seamlessly combined to enhance the campus experience.
The event attracted broad participation from various segments of the academic community, including students, lecturers, administrative staff, and even local residents. The Ramadan Bazaar also involved small-scale entrepreneurs from within the campus ecosystem, such as members of Dharma Wanita, retired staff, students, street vendors, and lecturers who opened stalls offering diverse food and beverage products. This inclusive participation highlighted the collaborative spirit of the FPK UNAIR community and underscored the importance of supporting local economic activities within the academic environment. By providing a platform for these vendors, the bazaar contributed to strengthening micro-enterprise development and encouraged entrepreneurial engagement among students and staff.
Through this initiative, the organizing committee created valuable opportunities for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to promote and market their products to a wider audience within the faculty. The involvement of various stakeholders reflected a strong commitment to economic empowerment and community inclusivity. In addition to the bazaar, a donation booth was established to facilitate acts of giving among members of the academic community. Students, lecturers, and staff were encouraged to contribute usable items such as prayer garments, mats, sarongs, caps, and other religious essentials. These donated items were later distributed to those in need, further extending the impact of the program beyond the campus. This initiative emphasized that the spirit of Ramadan goes beyond communal gatherings, fostering a culture of generosity and social responsibility.
The Ramadan Bazaar initiative aligns closely with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By providing food and beverages for iftar, the activity supports SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) by ensuring access to food for participants and community members. The involvement of campus-based MSMEs contributes to SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by promoting small-scale entrepreneurship and local economic resilience. Additionally, the collaboration among students, lecturers, administrative staff, and community members reflects the implementation of SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), highlighting the importance of collective action in achieving sustainable development outcomes. Through these integrated efforts, FPK UNAIR demonstrates how academic institutions can play a significant role in advancing global development agendas.
Through the successful organization of the Ramadan Bazaar as part of Gebyar Ramadhan FPK UNAIR 2026, the faculty continues to nurture values of solidarity, compassion, and community empowerment. This initiative stands as evidence that student organizations not only contribute to academic excellence but also play a crucial role in building social awareness and delivering tangible benefits to society. It is hoped that such programs will continue to inspire future initiatives that strengthen both the social fabric and economic resilience of the community within and beyond FPK UNAIR.
