The 18th Anniversary Festival of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine (FPK), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), became even more vibrant with a grilled fish gathering held at the central courtyard of FPK UNAIR, Campus C, on August 26, 2026. The event was attended by the Rector of Universitas Airlangga, Prof. Muhammad Madyan, who joined members of the academic community in celebrating the faculty’s anniversary in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

The grilled fish event served as one of the festival’s highlights, bringing together university leaders, lecturers, students, staff, and members of the surrounding community. Beyond commemorating the faculty’s 18-year journey, the activity reflected FPK UNAIR’s commitment to fostering stronger connections among stakeholders through a relaxed and inclusive celebration.

The presence of the Rector alongside participants further enlivened the occasion and demonstrated the university’s dedication to creating an open environment where academic communities and local residents could interact, celebrate, and strengthen their relationships beyond formal academic settings.

Grilled Tilapia Strengthens the Spirit of Togetherness

Grilled tilapia was chosen as the featured dish during the celebration and became the centerpiece of the communal gathering. The grilling process took place in the faculty’s central courtyard, attracting participants who gathered to witness the preparation while enjoying the lively festival atmosphere.

Once the grilling was completed, the freshly prepared fish was distributed to everyone attending the 18th FPK UNAIR Anniversary Festival. Lecturers, students, university staff, alumni, and members of the surrounding community shared the meal together, creating a warm and memorable dining experience that reflected the spirit of unity within the faculty.

The communal meal also encouraged meaningful conversations among participants from diverse backgrounds. The relaxed setting provided an opportunity for the academic community and local residents to engage with one another beyond classrooms and formal ceremonies, reinforcing a sense of belonging throughout the celebration.

“The atmosphere was lively and enjoyable. I think activities like this are interesting because everyone can gather together, enjoy grilled fish, and interact with people from different backgrounds,” said Ramdan, a student from Universitas Negeri Surabaya, who participated in the grilled fish gathering as part of the anniversary festival.

Student Collaboration Supports the Grilled Fish Celebration

The event was successfully carried out with active support from members of the Fisheries Processing Club (FPC), who assisted in preparing and organizing the grilled fish activity from the initial setup to the final distribution of the meals.

Their involvement reflected the important role of students in supporting faculty events while strengthening collaboration within FPK UNAIR. By participating directly in the celebration, FPC members demonstrated how student organizations contribute not only to academic development but also to building an inclusive campus environment through teamwork and shared responsibility.

In addition to being part of the anniversary festivities, the grilled fish gathering created a more relaxed space for interaction among participants. Sharing a meal together allowed lecturers, students, university staff, alumni, and local residents to communicate more openly and develop stronger interpersonal connections outside academic and administrative activities.

The welcoming atmosphere became one of the festival’s most memorable moments, reinforcing the sense of family within FPK UNAIR while creating meaningful experiences for everyone involved in celebrating the faculty’s 18th anniversary.

Strengthening Partnerships Through Collaboration

Through the grilled fish gathering, the 18th FPK UNAIR Anniversary Festival became more than a ceremonial celebration of the faculty’s achievements. It also served as a platform to strengthen togetherness, encourage collaboration, and foster meaningful engagement among university leaders, students, staff, alumni, and the surrounding community.

The collaborative spirit demonstrated throughout the event aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 17: Partnerships for the Goals, highlighting the importance of cooperation and strong partnerships in achieving shared objectives and building sustainable communities.

By nurturing solidarity and collaboration through activities such as the grilled fish gathering, FPK UNAIR continues to promote an inclusive academic environment where meaningful relationships can flourish. The faculty hopes that the anniversary festival will further strengthen institutional ties, encourage active community engagement, and inspire future collaborative initiatives that benefit both the university and society.
