On Friday, May 16, 2025, the Fisheries Processing Club (FPC) of Universitas Airlangga’s Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPK UNAIR) successfully carried out their production program, creating “Tilapia Fish Cookies.” This activity highlights the students’ creativity and entrepreneurial spirit while promoting innovative fish-based products among Fisheries Product Technology students.
The production event was part of the 2025 Research and Development (RnD) program of FPC, which aims to introduce the club to the campus community while providing a platform for students to explore entrepreneurship and creativity in fish product innovation. During the activity, RnD staff had the opportunity to craft fish cookies using tilapia, a nutrient-rich fish with high potential as a marketable and innovative product. This hands-on experience allowed students to combine technical skills with creative product development.
In this production session, three flavors of fish cookies were successfully prepared: chocolate (30 pieces), matcha (21 pieces), and red velvet (22 pieces), resulting in a total of 73 cookies. The project aims to diversify tilapia-based products and enhance the economic value of fish commodities while providing students with insight into practical food innovation. The process was conducted smoothly and energetically, with active participation from all FPC members, fostering teamwork and strengthening interpersonal connections within the club.
Beyond skill development, this initiative provided students with practical experience in designing business strategies and marketing fish products. The strong support from FPK UNAIR, including access to fully equipped laboratory facilities, played a crucial role in the program’s success. Through these activities, FPC members are expected to be further motivated to continuously innovate and produce high-quality fish products with competitive economic value, demonstrating the club’s contribution to academic excellence and applied research in fisheries science.
The event also aligns with FPK UNAIR’s mission to encourage research-based learning, community engagement, and the development of entrepreneurial skills among students. By producing these tilapia fish cookies, FPC not only showcases creative student initiatives but also provides a model for integrating academic knowledge with practical applications that benefit both the campus and the broader community.
