On August 10, 2025, the Aquaculture Student Association (HIMAKUA) of Universitas Airlangga, through the Department of Student Resource Development (PSDM), successfully held an orientation enrichment program titled NATAMANDARA. The event was specially designed for new students of the Aquaculture program as part of their early adaptation to the academic environment. Taking place from 3:50 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. (WIB), the program featured an engaging and educational series of sessions aimed at introducing students to essential values and global issues related to sustainability in fisheries and marine sciences.
One of the key highlights of the NATAMANDARA orientation was the presentation on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) delivered by Ayu Lana Nafisah, S.Pi., M.Sc., a lecturer from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPK) Universitas Airlangga. The session aimed to provide new students with a foundational understanding of global development challenges and the crucial role of young generations in contributing to sustainable progress. Through this introduction, participants gained insights into how global goals can be implemented in everyday academic life and community engagement, emphasizing the relevance of sustainability in both personal and professional contexts.
The session particularly focused on SDG 14: Life Below Water, which underscores the importance of conserving marine ecosystems and ensuring sustainable fisheries management. This focus was especially relevant to the students of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, whose academic background is deeply connected to the health and sustainability of aquatic environments. The discussion highlighted various real-world examples of how marine conservation efforts contribute to food security, climate resilience, and community well-being. By connecting theory to practice, students were encouraged to view themselves as future agents of change who can actively support sustainable ocean stewardship through education, research, and community service.
Through this enrichment program, HIMAKUA and the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science aim to nurture environmentally conscious and socially responsible students.
