Surabaya – The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine (FPK), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), continued its New Student Campus Life Orientation Program (PKKMB) through Natamandara 2026 on Friday, August 7, 2026. Attended by approximately 100–150 new students of the Aquaculture Study Program, the event provided an opportunity for students to gain a closer understanding of the academic environment, scientific fields, learning facilities, and career prospects in aquaculture.
Exploring the Study Program and Aquaculture Career Prospects
Held within the FPK UNAIR environment, the activity featured an introduction to the Aquaculture Study Program delivered by Dita Wisudyawati, S.Pi., M.Sc., a lecturer at FPK UNAIR. The session covered the scope of aquaculture sciences, career prospects for graduates, opportunities for personal development, learning facilities, and developments in aquaculture technology.
Dita explained that Aquaculture graduates have broad career prospects that extend beyond fish and aquatic organism farming. Graduates can pursue opportunities in government institutions, industry, consulting, education, and research.
“Career prospects in Aquaculture are very broad. They are not limited to aquaculture activities but also provide opportunities in various fields, ranging from government institutions and industry to consulting, education, and research. Therefore, students need to start recognizing that the knowledge they acquire in Aquaculture can be developed in many directions according to their interests and competencies,” Dita explained.
New students were also introduced to various learning facilities, including educational fish ponds, the Microbiology and Fish Disease Analysis Laboratory, Biotechnology Laboratory, Anatomy and Aquaculture Laboratory, and Analytical Chemistry Laboratory. In addition, they were introduced to the application of aquaculture technologies such as Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS), biofloc technology, and aquaponics.
Creating Opportunities for Competency Development
The introduction to the Aquaculture Study Program also highlighted various opportunities available to students throughout their university studies, including competitions, internships, scholarships, and field practicums. These activities provide opportunities for students to gain practical experience while developing both academic and non-academic competencies.
Natamandara 2026 aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, particularly in supporting inclusive and quality education. Through an introduction to the academic environment, learning facilities, personal development opportunities, as well as scientific and career prospects, new students receive an initial foundation to navigate their higher education journey in a more focused and informed manner.
Through the Natamandara 2026 series, new students are expected to develop a comprehensive understanding of the Aquaculture Study Program while identifying various opportunities for growth as members of the FPK UNAIR academic community.
