FPK UNAIR 28 January 2026 – School Visit
The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine (FPK) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) hosted an educational visit from SMAN 1 Krembung on Tuesday, January 27, 2026. During this event, 220 students and 12 accompanying teachers explored the academic environment of the faculty. Consequently, the faculty divided the participants into two separate rooms in Building A and Building B to ensure an effective and conducive learning experience.
This activity aims to broaden the perspectives of the younger generation regarding the importance of marine ecosystem conservation. Furthermore, the visit provides a clear overview of future career opportunities in aquaculture and marine technology. Through this introduction, FPK UNAIR strives to develop young intellectuals who can contribute to SDG 14 (Life Below Water) in the future.
The Vice Dean III of FPK UNAIR, Mr. Annur Ahadi, S.Pi., M.Si., Ph.D., gave a warm welcome to the students. He explained that the fisheries sector plays a vital role in maintaining national food security (SDG 2: Zero Hunger). Moreover, he emphasized that FPK UNAIR students have significant opportunities to engage in global partnerships (SDG 17), including student exchange programs and international research collaborations.
Following the opening remarks, Mr. Terry Previo Avianto, S.Pi., M.Si., delivered an in-depth presentation on the faculty’s profile. He detailed several key aspects, ranging from diverse job opportunities to the success stories of alumni in the global industry. He also explained that the fisheries sector is a primary economic pillar that helps alleviate poverty (SDG 1: No Poverty) through the development of high-value marine products.
Exploration of Laboratory Facilities and Aquaponic Technology
After the presentation, the students had the opportunity to witness high-end research facilities during a campus tour. They explored various sites, starting from Building C to specialized laboratories. At the Microbiology and Fish Disease Laboratory, students learned how to protect fisheries commodities from dangerous pathogens.
Subsequently, the tour continued to the Anatomy and Fish Culture Laboratory. Here, the students received scientific explanations regarding fish reproduction and growth patterns. Additionally, the participants visited the Aquaponic System, which symbolizes innovation in integrated agriculture and fisheries. This technology is highly relevant to SDG 13 (Climate Action) because it offers land-efficient and eco-friendly food production methods.
Building Collective Awareness for Gen Z
Overall, the visit from SMAN 1 Krembung provided significant educational benefits for the students. They did not only learn school theories but also observed the practical application of science in the modern fisheries industry. Therefore, FPK UNAIR continues to open its doors to other educational institutions to collaborate in educating the public about Indonesia’s maritime potential.
With early exposure, students are expected to develop a strong interest in pursuing higher education in marine sciences. Through quality education, Indonesia will possess human resources capable of managing marine wealth sustainably. Finally, the event concluded with an interactive discussion session and an exchange of souvenirs as a symbol of the partnership between the school and the university.
