On Saturday, August 23, 2025, the Fisheries Processing Club (FPC) of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Airlangga, successfully held its flagship program “SAFEFOOD 2025: Food Safety for a Healthy Generation” at the Nano Building, Campus C, Universitas Airlangga. The event aimed to raise awareness about food safety among young people, particularly students, by promoting critical thinking and responsible consumption of daily products.
The interactive seminar was attended by more than 50 enthusiastic participants. The main session featured a presentation from Mrs. Ary Chodijayanti, S.Farm., Apt., M.Farm, the Head of the Pharmacovigilance Team at the Surabaya National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BBPOM). Her session was followed by a lively Q&A and panel discussion, as well as a door prize session sponsored by BBPOM and FPC. The seminar provided students with an engaging platform to deepen their understanding of food safety while connecting directly with experts in the field.
Throughout the presentation, Mrs. Ary discussed not only the key challenges in ensuring food safety but also practical approaches to identifying safe food products. The topics included how to select safe ready-to-eat foods, fresh produce, and packaged processed foods, as well as the importance of choosing safe body care cosmetics. She also elaborated on product licensing procedures and other essential knowledge to help the younger generation become more informed consumers. The material proved highly relevant to students’ daily lives, offering them valuable insights into how to recognize products that meet national health standards.
Participants showed great enthusiasm and actively engaged in the discussions, expressing that the knowledge gained was both practical and enlightening. Many noted that the event made them more aware of the potential risks of consuming unverified products and encouraged them to always check product details before purchase. The campaign slogan “INGAT BPOM – Ingat Ceklik!”—which reminds consumers to check Packaging, Label, Distribution Permit, and Expiry Date—was emphasized throughout the seminar, reinforcing BPOM’s message of vigilance and consumer safety.
Through SAFEFOOD 2025, FPC FPK UNAIR continues to play an active role in fostering student awareness of food safety and public health. The program not only supported Universitas Airlangga’s mission of education and community engagement but also embodied the university’s commitment to producing knowledgeable graduates who contribute positively to society. By combining scientific insight with practical application, the event successfully empowered participants to make safer and healthier choices—reflecting UNAIR’s dedication to advancing health literacy among Indonesia’s young generation.
