Trawas, Mojokerto – In its continuous effort to develop resilient and adaptive young leaders, the Directorate of Student Affairs of Universitas Airlangga (Dirmawa UNAIR) once again organized the Advanced Student Management Skills Training (Latihan Keterampilan Manajemen Mahasiswa Tingkat Lanjut/LKMM TL). The program was designed as a platform to strengthen students’ leadership character, strategic thinking abilities, and decision-making skills through intensive discussions and organizational simulations.

One of the lecturers from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Airlangga (FPK UNAIR), Dwitha Nirmala, S.Pi., M.Si., participated in the event as a moderator. During the program, she highlighted the strategic importance of LKMM TL as a learning space that not only focuses on leadership theories but also provides practical experiences relevant to both student organizations and professional environments.

According to her, LKMM TL serves as an important platform for shaping students into disciplined, responsible individuals who are capable of making wise decisions in various organizational situations. “Through the Advanced Student Management Skills Training (LKMM TL), I see students learning how to become more disciplined, responsible, and capable of making thoughtful decisions in different organizational circumstances,” she explained.

To achieve these objectives, the LKMM TL program was designed through three comprehensive agendas. The first agenda focused on material enrichment sessions covering strategic topics such as student affairs policies, project management, and strategic leadership. The second agenda involved group discussions and case studies, where participants worked collaboratively to solve organizational conflict simulations and strategic challenges. The final agenda required participants to design impactful projects that could contribute positively to their surrounding communities.

Throughout the program, participants demonstrated high enthusiasm and active engagement during every discussion and simulation session. Dwitha emphasized that case-based learning methods significantly improved students’ communication skills, public speaking abilities, and strategic mindsets. “Group discussions and case studies greatly help students enhance their communication, public speaking, and strategic thinking skills,” she added.

Furthermore, she explained that LKMM TL also opened opportunities for students to expand their networks and build supportive relationships with participants from various organizational backgrounds. According to her, such experiences would become valuable assets for students, both in organizational life and in their future professional careers. “I also observed that students gained meaningful connections and valuable experiences that will certainly benefit them in organizational settings and everyday life,” she stated.

The implementation of LKMM TL also aligns with Universitas Airlangga’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By strengthening leadership capacity and managerial skills among students, the program contributes to SDG 4: Quality Education through practical and future-oriented learning experiences. In addition, LKMM TL supports SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions by fostering young leaders capable of promoting transparent, participatory, and solution-oriented organizational cultures.

Through the organization of LKMM TL, Dirmawa UNAIR hopes that students will not only become competent organizational leaders but also emerge as agents of change capable of creating positive impacts on society and their surrounding environments.
