Surabaya – On Monday, April 28, 2025, the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPK) at Universitas Airlangga (Unair) warmly welcomed 150 students from SMAN 1 Magetan for an engaging campus visit designed to introduce high school students to higher education opportunities and marine science studies.
The visit was part of Unair’s ongoing program to provide high school students with insights into university life and career opportunities in fisheries and marine sciences. Accompanied by their teachers, the students were greeted by FPK lecturers and students, creating an atmosphere filled with enthusiasm, curiosity, and academic engagement. The event took place in the FPK Unair meeting room, fostering interactive discussions and an open exchange of ideas between the visitors and the university community.
The program aimed to broaden students’ understanding of sustainable natural resource management and the diverse career paths in marine and fisheries sectors. During the session, students actively participated in Q&A discussions, demonstrating a strong interest in learning about marine ecosystems, fisheries technology, and related scientific disciplines. In addition, the visit provided an overview of Universitas Airlangga, its faculty structure, and the two study programs available at FPK Unair, along with prospects for future academic and professional growth.
The event began with a welcome speech from FPK representatives, introducing the faculty profile, academic programs, research initiatives, and career opportunities. FPK students also shared their experiences with campus life, including participation in student organizations and academic activities. Keynote presentations were delivered by Mr. Mochammad Browijjoyo S., S.Pi., M.Sc., PhD, an alumnus of SMAN 1 Magetan, who motivated the students to remain passionate and confident about their educational journey, emphasizing the abundant opportunities in the field of fisheries and marine sciences. Following this, Mr. Terry Previo Avianto, S.Pi., M.Si., a lecturer from the Aquaculture program, highlighted the unique aspects of the program and outlined future career prospects for graduates.
As a token of appreciation, FPK Unair presented a commemorative gift to SMAN 1 Magetan. The visit concluded with a group photo session to capture the memorable experience. This initiative is expected to inspire students from SMAN 1 Magetan to pursue higher education, particularly in the fisheries and marine sectors, which offer broad opportunities and contribute significantly to Indonesia’s sustainable development.
