The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Airlangga (FPK UNAIR), held the March 2026 Yudisium ceremony on Wednesday, 11 March 2026, at Building B302. The event marked an important academic milestone for students who had successfully completed all academic requirements and were officially declared graduates of the faculty. During this period, a total of ten students participated in the ceremony, consisting of five graduates from the Bachelor’s Program in Aquaculture, four graduates from the Bachelor’s Program in Fisheries Product Technology, and one graduate from the Master’s Program in Fisheries Science. The yudisium ceremony not only symbolized the completion of formal academic study but also represented the beginning of a new chapter for the graduates as they transition into professional life and contribute their knowledge and expertise to society, particularly in the fisheries and marine sectors.
The ceremony began with an opening address delivered by the Vice Dean I of FPK UNAIR, who conveyed motivational messages to the graduates. In his remarks, he emphasized that while the yudisium formally marks the end of academic study at the university level, the process of learning should continue beyond graduation. According to him, life after university presents broader challenges and opportunities where graduates must continue to develop their competencies, adapt to societal changes, and apply their knowledge in meaningful ways. He also reminded the graduates that by completing the yudisium process, they officially become part of the alumni community of FPK UNAIR. As alumni, they carry the responsibility to uphold the reputation of their alma mater while contributing positively to society, the nation, and the development of sustainable fisheries and marine sectors.
In addition to the official graduation announcement, the ceremony included a testimonial session where student representatives shared reflections on their academic journey. One of the representatives, Fridolin, a graduate from the Master’s Program in Fisheries Science, expressed appreciation for the significant development of facilities at FPK UNAIR in recent years. He highlighted that the faculty now provides increasingly supportive learning environments, including modern laboratory equipment, improved classroom infrastructure, and more efficient academic administrative systems. According to him, these improvements have greatly supported the learning process and helped students complete their studies successfully. He noted that the rapid development of academic facilities demonstrates the faculty’s commitment to maintaining high-quality education and research standards.
Students also conveyed their gratitude for the support provided by faculty leaders, lecturers, and administrative staff throughout their academic journey. Many graduates acknowledged that the guidance and assistance from the academic community played a crucial role in helping them overcome challenges during their studies. These challenges ranged from technical issues related to tuition payment systems, delays in academic administrative processes, to personal matters requiring academic consultation. The faculty’s responsiveness and willingness to provide solutions were highly appreciated by the students. The graduates expressed their sincere gratitude for the dedication, mentorship, and services provided by the entire academic community of FPK UNAIR. They also conveyed their hope that the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences at Universitas Airlangga will continue to grow, innovate, and strengthen its academic excellence in the years to come.
The implementation of the yudisium ceremony provides meaningful benefits for both students and the institution. For students, the ceremony serves as a moment of reflection on the academic journey they have completed and as motivation to move forward into professional careers or pursue further education. For the institution, the event represents an important academic process that reinforces FPK UNAIR’s commitment to producing competent graduates who possess integrity, professional skills, and awareness of sustainable fisheries and marine development. Through continuous academic improvement, the faculty aims to prepare graduates who are capable of responding to complex challenges within the fisheries and marine industries.
The yudisium ceremony also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), which emphasizes the importance of providing inclusive and high-quality education as a foundation for developing capable human resources. Furthermore, graduates from FPK UNAIR are expected to contribute to sustainable marine and fisheries development, indirectly supporting SDG 14 (Life Below Water) through responsible management of aquatic resources. Equipped with academic knowledge, research experience, and professional values obtained during their studies, these graduates are expected to become agents of change who contribute to community development and sustainable fisheries management in the future.
