The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine at Universitas Airlangga (FPK UNAIR) once again demonstrated its commitment to enhancing students’ global perspectives through the organization of an international guest lecture on marine aquaculture innovation held on April 13, 2026. The event featured a distinguished speaker from Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ching Fui Fui, who delivered a comprehensive presentation on the latest developments and challenges in modern aquaculture. This academic initiative reflects FPK UNAIR’s continuous effort to integrate global knowledge into its educational framework.
The guest lecture was conducted within the FPK UNAIR academic environment and attended by eighth-semester students of the Aquaculture Study Program as part of their academic enrichment prior to graduation. The session was designed to provide practical insights into innovation-driven aquaculture practices while broadening students’ understanding of global dynamics in fisheries and marine resource management. Through this activity, students were encouraged to explore real-world applications of theoretical knowledge and develop a more holistic perspective on the aquaculture sector.
In her presentation, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ching Fui Fui emphasized the critical role of innovation in addressing key challenges in aquaculture, particularly in balancing productivity with environmental sustainability. She highlighted that technological advancements in marine aquaculture are not solely focused on increasing production output but also on optimizing resource efficiency, maintaining environmental quality, and adapting to climate change. This integrated approach is essential to ensure the long-term sustainability of fisheries and aquaculture industries worldwide.
The lecture also covered various strategies for advancing technology-based aquaculture, including the implementation of modern farming systems, the improvement of seed quality, and the integration of scientific approaches in production management.
