On August 24, 2022, a team from the Department of Aquaculture, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Airlangga, led by Dr. Kismiyati and team members ROZI and LUTHFIANA APRILIANITA SARI, organized a community service activity at the PKK fishery business group RT 08 RW 09 Dukuh Sutorejo-Surabaya. This activity aims to utilize marginal land in freshwater fish farming in the area. The event was held in the main hall of Mr. Andi Budayan’s house.
This activity was designed to provide training to the community, especially PKK mothers and household members, on the good and correct way of tilapia and catfish farming using round tarpaulin ponds (CBIB). In addition, the training also includes the application of periodic water quality measurements and early recognition of fish diseases.
During the community service activities, various events were organized, including the provision of training materials, measurement of water quality, delivery of 1000 catfish fry with a size of about 7 cm, and preparation of round tarpaulin ponds. The material presentation was conducted by Dr. Akhmad Taufiq Mukti S.Pi., M.Si., who discussed training on fish farming in a good and correct way (CBIB), and Rozi, S.Pi., M.Biotech., who provided training on bacterial disease identification and water quality analysis in catfish farming on marginal land. The PKK women who attended seemed enthusiastic and excited, as seen from the active discussion with many questions about how to cultivate tilapia and catfish using good and correct round tarpaulin ponds (CBIB), periodic measurement of water quality, and early introduction of fish diseases. This activity went smoothly and ended with a group photo.
It is hoped that this activity can provide benefits for housewives of PKK RT 08 RW 09 Dukuh Sutorejo-Surabaya, as well as improve the community’s economy and the level of fish consumption in Dukuh Sutorejo, Surabaya.
