SURABAYA – The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine (FPK), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), reaffirmed its commitment to practice-based learning through a guest lecture held on April 10, 2026. The session featured industry practitioner Siti Fatimah Febrina, S.T., Executive Director of Sambal Dede Satoe (DD1), as a speaker in the Fisheries Marketing and Trade course. This initiative provided students with relevant and contextual insights into the evolving dynamics of fisheries product marketing in Indonesia.

The guest lecture was conducted within the FPK UNAIR academic environment and attended by students enrolled in the course. The presence of an industry expert offered perspectives that extended beyond theory, incorporating real-world experience and practical knowledge. In her presentation, Siti Fatimah Febrina emphasized the vast potential of Indonesia’s fisheries sector, particularly in terms of product downstreaming and the implementation of targeted marketing strategies.

Students were encouraged to understand that fisheries products should not stop at the production stage but must be enhanced through value-added processes such as innovation, branding, and effective distribution strategies. The speaker also highlighted the importance of understanding consumer behavior, market trends, and the use of digital platforms as modern marketing tools capable of reaching wider audiences.

During the interactive session, various marketing strategies applicable to fisheries products were discussed in detail. Topics included attractive packaging design, storytelling in branding, and the utilization of digital platforms to increase product visibility. The speaker also shared practical experiences in developing the Sambal Dede Satoe (DD1) brand, illustrating how a fisheries-based product can successfully compete in the market through innovation and strategic positioning.

Students gained valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities faced by entrepreneurs in the fisheries sector, including maintaining product quality, building consumer trust, and sustaining innovation. These discussions provided a realistic overview of industry conditions and are expected to serve as essential preparation for students entering the workforce or pursuing entrepreneurial ventures in fisheries.

This guest lecture contributed significantly to enhancing students’ competencies by bridging academic knowledge with industry practice. It also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) through the delivery of practice-oriented learning, SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by fostering entrepreneurial awareness and career readiness, and SDG 14 (Life Below Water) by promoting sustainable utilization of marine resources.

Through initiatives like this, FPK UNAIR continues to strengthen its role as an adaptive and industry-responsive educational institution, preparing graduates who are competent, innovative, and ready to contribute to the advancement of the fisheries and marine sector at both national and global levels.
