Symbol: The emblem of Universitas Airlangga is the Garuda Mukti, which is the celestial bird mount of Lord Vishnu or Prabu Airlangga. In the emblem of Universitas Airlangga, Garuda Mukti is depicted carrying a jug, which is encircled by a golden chain on its outer side.

At the inception of Airlangga University, its first rector discovered the royal seal or stamp of Prabu Airlangga in the Arca Building, Jakarta. The royal seal depicted the Garuda bird, the mount of Lord Vishnu (Prabu Airlangga), carrying a pitcher containing the immortal elixir, known as amrita. It is believed that this water possesses eternal qualities. Therefore, Airlangga University adopted the Garuda Mukti, symbolizing the eternal source of knowledge, as its emblem.

The outer circle of the seal represents a golden chain, symbolizing the students pursuing knowledge at Airlangga University. It is hoped that they will become an unbroken chain, contributing to the glory of their alma mater, the nation, and humanity.

As for the colors, yellow and blue were chosen during the inauguration of Airlangga University, which featured the unveiling of the Wisnu statue. The covering of the statue was in yellow and blue. President of the Republic of Indonesia, the late Ir. Soekarno, who inaugurated Airlangga University, instructed that these colors be preserved as the university’s flag colors. Yellow signifies grandeur, while blue represents knighthood and deep spirituality.
