FPK UNAIR Identity
Official Institutional Emblem
The emblem of Universitas Airlangga features Garuda Mukti carrying a vessel surrounded on the outside by a circle of golden chain links.
Why does the emblem of Universitas Airlangga feature Garuda Mukti rather than an image of Prabu Airlangga himself, even though Garuda Mukti was the king's mount?
This is because, at the beginning of Universitas Airlangga's establishment, its first rector discovered the seal or emblem of Prabu Airlangga at Gedung Arca, Jakarta. The royal seal depicts the Garuda, the mount of Bathara Wisnu (Prabu Airlangga), carrying a vessel containing amerta water.
According to legend, the water possessed eternal properties. Therefore, Garuda Mukti was chosen as the emblem of Universitas Airlangga, symbolizing the source of eternal knowledge.
