Surabaya – The Aquaculture Student Association of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPK), Universitas Airlangga (HIMAKUA FPK UNAIR), conducted a comparative study visit on Friday (November 14, 2025) at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Yogyakarta. The initiative reflects the implementation of the tridharma of higher education—education, research, and community engagement—while strengthening academic collaboration among leading Indonesian universities.
The comparative study was organized as a strategic effort to foster closer institutional relationships, enhance inter-organizational cooperation, and exchange insights regarding student organization management within the fisheries and marine sciences sector. Representing the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences of Universitas Airlangga, HIMAKUA engaged in discussions with KMIP of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada. The visit aimed to build sustainable partnerships that support both academic and non-academic programs, including research collaboration, scientific forums, student capacity building, and community-based fisheries initiatives. Through this engagement, both institutions sought to align organizational strategies with the broader mission of advancing sustainable aquaculture and marine resource management in Indonesia.
The event commenced with an opening session and welcoming remarks from representatives of both student associations, emphasizing the importance of inter-university collaboration in supporting academic excellence and professional development. This was followed by a structured presentation introducing each organization’s governance system, work programs, flagship initiatives, and leadership framework. Participants explored how organizational management supports academic productivity, student research activities, scientific publications, and outreach programs aligned with sustainable fisheries development. The exchange also highlighted innovative approaches implemented by both associations in organizing seminars, workshops, research-based competitions, and community service projects aimed at empowering coastal communities and promoting environmentally responsible aquaculture practices.
A discussion and question-and-answer session formed the core of the comparative study, allowing participants to examine strategic organizational development, innovation in program execution, and the challenges faced in managing dynamic student communities. Topics included leadership regeneration, research integration within student activities, collaboration with external stakeholders, and adaptation to technological advancements in fisheries and marine sciences. The dialogue encouraged critical reflection on how student organizations can actively contribute to academic research dissemination and community engagement, reinforcing the tridharma values within practical organizational frameworks. The session concluded with a group photo and the exchange of plaques and commemorative tokens as a symbolic gesture of goodwill and continued partnership between HIMAKUA FPK Universitas Airlangga and KMIP FAPERTA Universitas Gadjah Mada.
Overall, the comparative study was conducted smoothly and received enthusiastic participation from all attendees. The activity not only strengthened institutional networks but also provided fresh perspectives for organizational development within the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Airlangga. By fostering collaboration across universities, HIMAKUA FPK UNAIR reaffirms its commitment to supporting academic growth, research advancement, and community-oriented fisheries innovation at both national and international levels.
