Surabaya – PODSMIKAT (Podcast Bareng SEMIKAT) returned as one of the flagship programs organized by the Department of Arts, Interests, and Talents (SEMIKAT) of the Aquaculture Student Association (HIMAKUA), Faculty of Fisheries and Marine (FPK), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR). Designed as an educational podcast series, PODSMIKAT 2026 featured alumni, outstanding students, and faculty leaders who shared insights on personal development, leadership, and entrepreneurship to prepare students for the professional world.
The entire podcast series was presented in an interactive format and published through HIMAKUA’s official YouTube channel, making it accessible to students and the wider public. Through this digital platform, HIMAKUA aims to deliver informative and inspiring content that encourages students to continuously develop their skills and competencies.
Featuring Inspiring Speakers
PODSMIKAT 2026 consisted of three podcast sessions held on April 26, April 27, and May 6, 2026, at Universitas Airlangga. Each session featured speakers from diverse backgrounds, providing participants with valuable perspectives on academic life, student organizations, career development, and entrepreneurship.
The first session welcomed Mochammad Sultan Syah Apendi, S.Pi., who highlighted the importance of knowledge and practical skills gained during university studies as essential foundations for future careers. He also shared his experience of establishing a free online learning platform for students during the COVID-19 pandemic as a contribution to the education sector.
“The theories and practical knowledge we gain throughout our studies will continue to be valuable and applicable when we enter the professional world,” he explained.
Encouraging Entrepreneurial Spirit Among Students
The second session featured Muhammad Nabil Fawaid, who shared his entrepreneurial journey that began during his second semester in the Aquaculture Study Program. While balancing academic responsibilities and organizational activities, he successfully established businesses in aquaculture and fisheries product processing.
During the discussion, he encouraged students to embrace challenges and learn from failure.
“I didn’t start from zero—zero is too clean. I started from a negative point, from setbacks, from failure,” he remarked.
Through his story, participants learned that continuous learning, consistency, and the courage to seize opportunities are essential elements in building a successful business while still pursuing higher education.
Preparing Students for the Professional World
The third session featured Kustiawan Tri Pursetyo, S.Pi., M.Vet., who discussed the challenges young graduates face in today’s competitive job market. He emphasized that students should develop strong competencies while cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset capable of creating opportunities rather than simply seeking employment.
“The biggest challenge in today’s job market is the limited availability of employment opportunities. Therefore, we should strive to become individuals who create jobs instead of merely looking for them,” he stated.
Through the diverse perspectives shared by the speakers, PODSMIKAT 2026 provided students with valuable insights into leadership, personal growth, time management, and entrepreneurship. Beyond serving as a platform for sharing experiences, the program also strengthened connections among students, alumni, and the academic community of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine, Universitas Airlangga.
The implementation of PODSMIKAT 2026 reflects HIMAKUA’s commitment to providing innovative learning platforms that adapt to technological advancements while supporting student development beyond the classroom. The program also contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) by delivering educational content that broadens students’ knowledge and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by fostering leadership and entrepreneurial mindsets among university students.
