The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences at Universitas Airlangga (FPK UNAIR) officially inaugurated its 2026 Student Organizations (ORMAWA FPK) on Monday, 9 February 2026. The ceremony marked a formal leadership transition and reaffirmed the faculty’s commitment to fostering professional, sustainable, and integrity-driven student governance as part of its broader academic ecosystem.

The inauguration took place at the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences and was attended by the core executive boards of all student organizations under FPK UNAIR. These included the Student Executive Board (BEM), Student Legislative Board (BLM), Student Representative Council (DLM), Islamic Spiritual Unit (SKI), Kajian Keilmiahan Mahasiswa (KAKEMA), Fisheries Processing Club (FPC), the Student Association of Fisheries Product Technology (HIMATEKHIKAN), and the Student Association of Aquaculture (HIMAKUA). The event served as a formal handover of leadership for the 2026 term, ensuring organizational continuity and reinforcing accountability in student governance. By bringing together various student bodies representing leadership, legislation, scientific development, spirituality, and professional interests in fisheries and marine sciences, the ceremony reflected the dynamic and diverse student ecosystem within FPK UNAIR.

The event began with an opening session led by the master of ceremonies, followed by the singing of the Indonesian national anthem “Indonesia Raya” and the “Hymn of Airlangga” as expressions of national pride and institutional identity. The Dean’s Decree on the official appointment of the 2026 ORMAWA FPK board members was then formally read. The core segment of the ceremony consisted of the oath-taking and pledge of office, symbolizing the new administrators’ commitment to upholding ethical leadership, organizational integrity, and responsibility. The procession concluded with the formal handover of positions and the signing of official documents. Remarks were delivered by the 2025 Chair of BEM FPK, the newly inaugurated 2026 Chair, and the Dean of FPK UNAIR, who emphasized the strategic role of student organizations in strengthening the faculty’s academic climate and supporting the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education—education, research, and community service.

Student organizations at FPK UNAIR play a crucial role as platforms for leadership training, character building, and soft skills development. Through active participation in ORMAWA, students are encouraged to enhance critical thinking, communication, organizational management, and social awareness—competencies that are increasingly essential in addressing global challenges in the fisheries and marine sectors. Organizations such as KAKEMA and FPC, for instance, contribute directly to academic enrichment by facilitating scientific discussions, practical workshops, and innovation-driven activities aligned with current research trends in aquaculture, fisheries product processing, and marine resource sustainability. This integration between student initiatives and academic objectives ensures that extracurricular engagement remains relevant to scholarly development and professional preparation.

Furthermore, ORMAWA serves as a strategic partner to the faculty in supporting academic programs, student research initiatives, and community engagement activities. Through collaborative projects, outreach programs, and scientific forums, student organizations contribute to knowledge dissemination and the practical application of fisheries and marine science in society. The 2026 inauguration thus represents more than a ceremonial milestone; it underscores FPK UNAIR’s ongoing commitment to nurturing a conducive, inclusive, and adaptive academic environment. By strengthening synergy among student leaders, faculty members, and institutional management, FPK UNAIR continues to advance its vision of producing globally competitive graduates equipped with academic excellence, leadership competence, and a strong sense of social responsibility.
