The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine (FPK), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), welcomed an educational visit from SMA Negeri 1 Pamekasan on April 9, 2026, as part of its ongoing effort to introduce higher education opportunities to high school students. The visit involved 55 students accompanied by five teachers, aiming to provide insights into academic pathways and career prospects in the fisheries and marine sector.

The visit began with a warm welcome from the Vice Dean III of FPK UNAIR, Annur Ahadi Abdillah, S.Pi., M.Si., Ph.D., who shared an inspiring message rooted in his personal journey. As an alumnus of SMA Negeri 1 Pamekasan, he expressed pride in reconnecting with students from his former school. Through his academic story, he emphasized the importance of perseverance, continuous learning, and courage in pursuing one’s aspirations. His experience served as a powerful motivation for the students to believe in their potential and strive for higher education.

During his remarks, he also highlighted the vast potential of Indonesia’s fisheries sector, particularly in the Madura region. Despite its rich marine resources, the sector still requires further development through knowledge advancement and skilled human resources. He encouraged students to view fisheries and marine sciences as promising and impactful career paths, urging them not to underestimate the sector’s significance for the nation’s future.

The next session featured a comprehensive presentation by Dita Wisudyawati, S.Pi., M.Sc., who introduced the academic programs available at FPK UNAIR. She explained the unique strengths of each study program, including academic opportunities, supporting facilities, and potential career pathways for graduates. The presentation also covered various academic and extracurricular activities that contribute to students’ holistic development during their university journey.

Furthermore, the session emphasized the faculty’s modern laboratory facilities, high-quality teaching standards, and opportunities for research collaboration. These aspects provided students with a clear and realistic picture of the university learning environment, helping them better understand what to expect when pursuing higher education in fisheries and marine sciences.

This educational visit aligns with FPK UNAIR’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) by improving access to information about higher education. Additionally, by introducing the importance of the fisheries sector, the activity supports SDG 14 (Life Below Water) through raising awareness among younger generations about sustainable marine resource management.

Through this initiative, FPK UNAIR plays an active role in fostering students’ awareness and interest in fisheries and marine studies as strategic sectors contributing to national development. The visit is expected not only to broaden students’ academic perspectives but also to inspire them to actively participate in the sustainable management of Indonesia’s natural resources in the future.
