On Thursday, March 6, 2025, the head of the BSI UNAIR branch visited the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPK) at Universitas Airlangga to explore potential collaboration opportunities. The visit marks a significant step in strengthening partnerships between academia and the banking sector to support research, education, and community development initiatives.
The visit by the BSI branch head aimed to establish a formal partnership with FPK, focusing on fostering innovation, financial literacy, and community empowerment programs. The delegation was warmly welcomed by the FPK leadership, including the Dean and several faculty members, who presented an overview of FPK’s academic programs, ongoing research projects, and community service activities. The discussion highlighted how collaborative efforts could enhance student engagement, facilitate applied research funding, and expand outreach initiatives that benefit local fisheries communities.
During the meeting, key points of potential collaboration were identified. These included joint research projects on sustainable aquaculture practices, internship opportunities for FPK students within BSI UNAIR, and co-development of community service programs that integrate financial management and marine resource sustainability. Both parties emphasized the importance of combining academic expertise with financial innovation to address challenges faced by the fisheries sector, including resource management, market access, and environmental conservation.
Furthermore, the visit included a tour of FPK’s research facilities, where the BSI delegation observed laboratory operations, ongoing experiments, and student-led projects. The interaction provided insights into how FPK’s research can translate into practical solutions that support regional fisheries development. Faculty members shared their experiences in mentoring students and conducting applied research, demonstrating the potential for collaborative projects that leverage financial resources and technical knowledge.
By the end of the visit, both FPK and BSI UNAIR agreed to draft a memorandum of understanding (MoU) outlining specific areas of cooperation. This partnership aims to strengthen academic-industry links, promote student skill development, and create sustainable programs that positively impact both education and the local community. The collaboration is expected to foster a mutually beneficial relationship that enhances research output, community engagement, and professional opportunities for FPK students.
