The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine, Universitas Airlangga (FPK UNAIR), continues to reinforce its commitment to advancing research- and technology-based aquaculture development. This commitment was formally demonstrated through the signing of a Cooperation Agreement between FPK UNAIR and the National Shrimp Farmers Foundation (Yayasan Pembudidaya Udang Nasional/YPUN), which was held in conjunction with the Grand Launching of YPUN’s Shrimp Aquaculture Research and Technology Development Laboratory on Thursday, 22 January 2026.

The cooperation agreement signing took place at the Hall of the Shrimp Aquaculture Research and Technology Development Laboratory, located in Banjar Taman, Tuwed Village, Melaya District, Jembrana Regency, Bali. This collaboration represents a strategic effort to integrate FPK UNAIR’s academic excellence with YPUN’s extensive practical experience in the national shrimp aquaculture sector.

The agreement was officially signed by the Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Airlangga, Prof. Dr. Endang Dewi Masithah, Ir., M.P., and the Chairman of the National Shrimp Farmers Foundation, Prof. Dr. Ir. Maftuch, M.Si., IPU., ASEAN Eng. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to developing environmentally responsible, science-based shrimp aquaculture technologies.

The inauguration of YPUN’s Shrimp Aquaculture Research and Technology Development Laboratory marks a significant milestone in strengthening national research infrastructure for shrimp farming. The laboratory is designed to serve as a center for technological innovation, applied research, pilot-scale testing, and knowledge transfer among researchers, academics, and industry practitioners.

This initiative aligns with FPK UNAIR’s institutional role in promoting applied research, community engagement, and tangible contributions to the sustainable development of Indonesia’s fisheries and aquaculture sectors. Through this laboratory, innovative solutions are expected to emerge, enhancing shrimp farming productivity while preserving aquatic ecosystems and environmental balance.

The collaboration between FPK UNAIR and YPUN is closely aligned with the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Research-driven shrimp aquaculture directly supports SDG 14 (Life Below Water) by promoting responsible and environmentally sound aquaculture practices. In addition, technological innovations that improve efficiency and sustainability contribute to SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 1 (No Poverty) by strengthening food security and improving the livelihoods of shrimp farmers.

Furthermore, the development of adaptive and sustainable aquaculture technologies supports SDG 13 (Climate Action) by addressing climate-related challenges faced by the fisheries sector. This institutional partnership also exemplifies SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through strong collaboration between higher education institutions and industry stakeholders.
