The 2024 Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science General Election (PEMIRA FPK) at Universitas Airlangga has been successfully conducted, marking an important moment for FPK students to select leaders who will bring significant changes. The PEMIRA, which took place from November 11 to December 14, 2024, received a positive response and became part of the growing campus democracy.

Stages of PEMIRA FPK
The PEMIRA process began on November 11-29, 2024, with registration for participants from various batches. Candidates from the 2022, 2023, and 2024 cohorts registered to run for various strategic positions. Following this, document verification was carried out on November 30 to ensure the validity of each registration. On December 1, the committee officially declared the participants and proceeded with the drawing of numbers.

The campaign period ran from December 1-7, 2024, giving candidates the opportunity to present their visions and missions. One of the key moments was the Panelist and Campus Community Test on December 5, where candidates were evaluated in front of students and faculty advisors. This test was crucial to assess the candidates’ capabilities as future leaders of FPK.

The culmination of the event was the voting on December 9, 2024. All FPK UNAIR students were given the opportunity to vote for their best candidates. After the voting, the process continued with the objection period on December 10 and the final declaration of the elected members on December 13, 2024.

Participants in PEMIRA FPK 2024
This year, PEMIRA featured candidates for various positions. For the Student Legislative Council (BLM), there were 8 candidates from the 2024 cohort, 4 from the 2023 cohort, and 3 from the 2022 cohort. For the position of Student Association Chair (KAHIMA), there were candidate pairs from each study program, namely KAHIMAKUA (Aquaculture) and KAHIMATEK (Fishery Product Technology). Additionally, there was one pair of candidates for the President and Vice President of the Student Executive Board (BEM).

With the conclusion of PEMIRA on December 13, 2024, it is hoped that the newly elected leaders will advance FPK UNAIR and bring innovation and inclusive leadership for the future of the faculty. PEMIRA 2024 serves as clear evidence that campus democracy can be an excellent tool for political education for the younger generation.
