Art Class is a talk show and hands-on workshop focusing on the art of flower bouquet arrangement, organized by the Student Association of Aquaculture, specifically the Department of Arts, Interests, and Talents (Semikat). The event aimed to provide participants with both knowledge and practical experience in creating flower bouquets. Held on Sunday, June 15, 2025, in Room B.302, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Airlangga, the event ran from 10:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
The event began with an opening speech from the Head of the Arts, Interests, and Talents Department, followed by remarks from the Chief Organizer of Art Class 2025. The agenda continued with a talk show session that discussed art in the context of bouquet-making, before breaking for lunch and prayer. The excitement continued with a short ice-breaking activity, followed by the main session—the flower bouquet workshop. Participants then engaged in a judging session, showcasing their creative results, and concluded the event with a closing session.
A total of 21 participants attended the event, representing various faculties within and outside Universitas Airlangga. While most of the attendees were students from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPK), the diversity of participants fostered a dynamic and collaborative learning environment. The initial idea behind Art Class stemmed from Semikat’s aspiration to bring “art vibes” into the FPK environment, which is often dominated by science and technology. Interestingly, the speaker for the session was also the owner of a local florist business, adding professional insight to the learning experience. Although this year’s event did not carry a specific theme, it embraced a general focus on flower bouquet artistry.
Beyond just a creative activity, Art Class served as a platform to promote soft skills development, teamwork, and artistic appreciation among science students. Participants were not only taught how to arrange flowers but also learned about color harmony, aesthetic balance, and presentation techniques—skills that nurture creativity and innovation. The enthusiasm shown by the attendees demonstrated a growing interest in integrating artistic expression within academic life at Universitas Airlangga.
The organizers hope that the knowledge and experiences shared during Art Class will inspire participants to continue exploring art as a complementary aspect of scientific learning. The Student Association of Aquaculture (HIMAKUA) also views this event as an opportunity to strengthen its visibility and engagement beyond the faculty environment. Given the enthusiastic response from participants, the organizers plan to continue Art Class in the coming years, envisioning a livelier event and stronger mutual collaboration between the committee and participants.
