Surabaya – The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPK) at Universitas Airlangga warmly welcomed a special visit from SMAN 1 Tarik on Thursday, April 24, 2025. This visit is part of the school’s routine program to introduce senior high school students to higher education opportunities and broaden their academic horizons.

The delegation from SMAN 1 Tarik, led by Vice Principal Drs. Priyanto, was received by FPK UNAIR Dean Prof. Ir. Mochammad Amin Alamsjah, M.Si., Ph.D., at room B304 of the faculty. The meeting began with a warm exchange of souvenirs, symbolizing friendship and collaboration between secondary and higher education institutions. The Dean expressed his appreciation for the school’s initiative, emphasizing the importance of equipping students with knowledge about the fisheries and marine sector. “We hope this visit opens students’ perspectives on the vital role of fisheries in our nation’s future. We also encourage prospective students and their parents to consider potential study programs in food sciences, particularly fisheries, as Indonesia’s vast maritime resources require skilled graduates who can combine excellence with morality in managing these abundant resources,” he stated.

Vice Principal Drs. Priyanto thanked FPK UNAIR for the warm reception and expressed his hope that the students would be motivated to pursue higher education. He also shared exciting news that one of their students received a golden ticket to enroll in the Aquaculture program at FPK UNAIR, highlighting the opportunities for outstanding students to gain direct entry through merit-based pathways.

The visit continued with an informative session on FPK UNAIR’s study programs, including Fisheries Product Technology and Aquaculture. Lecturers Dita Wisudyawati, S.Pi., M.Sc., and Terry Previo Avianto, S.Pi., M.Si., presented not only the academic curriculum but also potential career paths for graduates. Students actively participated by asking questions, such as the prospects of becoming marine and fisheries educators in vocational high schools (SMK) across East Java. Other questions focused on merit-based admissions opportunities offered by UNAIR, including Qur’an memorization tracks and golden ticket entries during the Airlangga Education Expo or Airlangga Maritime Week.

The program concluded with a hands-on visit to several laboratories and practical facilities within the faculty, giving students a real insight into academic activities, research projects, and the experiential learning environment at FPK UNAIR. The immersive experience aimed to inspire students’ interest in fisheries science and strengthen collaboration between high schools and universities in developing Indonesia’s future maritime professionals.
