The building disaster response simulation held on Saturday, November 25, 2023 involving students, staff, and lecturers from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences Universitas Airlangga (Unair) was successfully held. This event was initiated by the Directorate of Facilities and Infrastructure of Unair as part of efforts to increase preparedness for emergency events in the campus environment.
The simulation this time focused on responding to a fire situation that occurred in the Chemistry & Analysis Laboratory, a vital facility in the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences. Simulation participants, consisting of students, education staff, and lecturers, were given realistic scenarios to test their ability to deal with emergencies.
As part of the simulation, participants were trained to use various fire-fighting methods, including the use of wet gunny sacks and a light fire extinguisher (APAR). Quick and effective action steps in dealing with fires in chemical laboratories were the main focus, given the potential hazards that could arise.
The simulation also considered aspects of evacuation, disaster response team coordination, and communication among all parties involved. The participants were given the opportunity to hone their skills in dealing with realistic emergency scenarios and improve team coordination within the campus.
Head of Administration Agus Sutiyono, S.Sos., M.M. Representing the Dean, expressed his satisfaction with the smooth running of the simulation. “This simulation is important to improve our preparedness in dealing with emergencies. We want to ensure that the entire Unair community can respond quickly and effectively in overcoming emergency situations,” he said.
The building disaster response simulation is expected to be the basis for organizing routine exercises in the future, to ensure that all members of the Unair community are trained and ready to act in dealing with various emergency conditions.
