Surabaya – The Student Association of Fisheries Product Technology (HIMATEKHIKAN) of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine (FPK) Universitas Airlangga, in collaboration with HIMATEPA Universitas Negeri Surabaya, successfully organized a comparative study program entitled “Marine Synergy for Sustainable Food Security through Fisheries Student Organization Comparative Study” on Saturday, 16 May 2026. Held at the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine, Universitas Airlangga, the activity served as a strategic platform to strengthen collaboration between student organizations while enhancing the contribution of young generations toward the development of the fisheries sector and sustainable national food security.
The comparative study involved executive board members, departmental staff, and active students from both organizations. The series of activities included work program presentations, interactive discussions, sharing sessions, and organizational evaluation forums aimed at improving leadership quality and student professionalism in the fisheries and marine sector. The event was conducted in an active, communicative, and enthusiastic atmosphere, reflecting the collaborative spirit between student organizations in fostering a progressive and innovative academic environment.
During the program, HIMATEKHIKAN FPK UNAIR and HIMATEPA UNESA exchanged experiences regarding organizational systems, human resource development, and strategies for implementing both academic and non-academic programs. Each organization presented its management structure, achievements, and innovations that have been implemented to support student development. The open and professional discussions also became a platform to exchange ideas regarding challenges faced by student organizations in the modern era, including strengthening the role of students in supporting sustainable fisheries development.
Beyond strengthening inter-organizational relationships, the activity also became an important momentum to raise students’ awareness of the strategic role of young generations in sustainable aquatic resource management. Students were encouraged to understand that the fisheries and marine sector contributes significantly to national food security, requiring adaptive, innovative, and solution-oriented human resources capable of addressing future environmental and food-related challenges.
Through this comparative study, both organizations hope to establish sustainable collaboration in organizational development programs, academic activities, and fisheries-based community service initiatives. The program also provided valuable benefits for participants by improving communication skills, leadership capacity, and knowledge regarding strategic issues in the modern fisheries sector that continues to evolve globally.
This comparative study activity aligns with the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2: Zero Hunger through strengthening students’ understanding of fisheries-based food security, SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production through promoting responsible and sustainable fisheries resource management, and SDG 14: Life Below Water through strengthening education and student collaboration in supporting the conservation of marine ecosystems and Indonesia’s marine resources.
Through the successful implementation of this activity, HIMATEKHIKAN FPK UNAIR and HIMATEPA UNESA are expected to become adaptive, progressive, and competitive student organizations while continuing to contribute actively toward the development of the fisheries sector and the sustainability of marine resources in Indonesia.
