The construction of a 30.16 km sea wall in Tangerang, Banten, has drawn a lot of criticism. Marine expert from Airlangga University, Prof. Mochammad Amin Alamsjah, emphasized that this action contradicts Article 33, Paragraph 3 of the 1945 Constitution, which states that the sea and its natural resources are controlled by the state for the welfare of the people.
According to him, this sea wall is not only legally problematic but also poses a serious threat to the marine ecosystem.
“This wall can accelerate sedimentation, damage fish breeding areas, and threaten marine life such as coral reefs and seagrass beds,” he explained.
Another major issue is the impact on local fishermen, who now struggle to access the sea. They are forced to find new fishing areas, travel further, and spend more on operational costs, leading to lower fish catches.
“If this sea wall remains, fishermen will continue to face difficulties. Their productivity will drop, and their economic stability will be at risk,” added Prof. Amin.
