The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine of Universitas Airlangga (FPK UNAIR) officially established a cooperation agreement for Field Work Practice (PKL), internship programs, and industrial visits with PT Dede Satoe on February 13, 2026. This collaboration represents a strategic initiative to strengthen synergy between higher education and the fisheries processing industry, while enhancing student competencies in Fisheries Product Technology in alignment with global market demands.
The agreement signing was held on Friday, February 13, 2026, and was attended by faculty leaders and company representatives. Representing FPK UNAIR were Mr. Annur Ahadi Abdillah, S.Pi., M.Si., Ph.D., and Mr. Kustiawan Tri Pursetyo, S.Pi., M.Vet., Ph.D. The cooperation encompasses structured internship placements, field work practice programs, and academic industrial visits that will provide contextual learning experiences through direct engagement with export-oriented frozen seafood production and quality control systems.
As a fisheries processing and export company, PT Dede Satoe focuses on high-quality frozen seafood products for international markets. In its operations, the company requires competent human resources in Fisheries Product Technology to ensure the optimal implementation of quality management systems, quality control procedures, food safety assurance, and product innovation. Graduates of Fisheries Product Technology play a vital role in quality control processes, product development, and the application of international standards such as Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), as well as in maintaining product consistency to meet export requirements and compete in the global marketplace.
Through this partnership, students will gain direct exposure to the implementation of international food safety standards, production risk analysis, and industry practices grounded in efficiency and sustainability. Participants in the program include faculty leaders, company management representatives, and students of the Fisheries Product Technology Study Program who will participate in internships and field practice in stages, based on industrial needs and company capacity.
The primary objective of this cooperation is to enhance curriculum relevance to industry demands, strengthen the link and match between academia and professional practice, and prepare graduates who are adaptive, professional, and globally competitive. Furthermore, this collaboration opens opportunities for applied research and product innovation initiatives that support the value-added development of national fisheries commodities.
More broadly, the partnership between FPK UNAIR and PT Dede Satoe contributes to the achievement of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Improving graduate quality and employability supports efforts to reduce economic disparities and enhance community welfare (SDG 1: No Poverty). Strengthening food safety and quality systems in fisheries products contributes to food security and access to safe and nutritious food (SDG 2: Zero Hunger). Mr. Annur Ahadi Abdillah, S.Pi., M.Si., Ph.D., stated that this cooperation represents a concrete step to ensure students gain practical and industry-relevant learning experiences. “We expect students not only to understand theoretical concepts in the classroom but also to professionally implement quality assurance and food safety standards within industrial environments,” he explained.
Meanwhile, a representative of PT Dede Satoe emphasized that the partnership offers mutual benefits for both the company and the academic institution. The presence of FPK UNAIR interns is expected to contribute scientific perspectives and support the strengthening of the company’s quality control systems in facing increasingly competitive international markets.
