Surabaya, September 2, 2024 – Another brilliant achievement was made by Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) students in the prestigious Indonesia Inventors Day (IID) 2024. Terra team, consisting of Arinda Melina Putri and Putri Mardhotillah from Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPK), Galih Satrio Jati and Yeremia Budi Cristian from Faculty of Advanced Technology and Multidiscipline (FTMM), Claudia Benita from Faculty of Public Health (FKM), Catherine Harijanto from Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), and Grae Amaranusa from Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), won a gold medal at the international event.
Raising the issue of the environment, the Terra Team created an innovation called Terra Smart Patch. This technology is a food freshness indicator based on smart halochromic film made from mocaf starch, kappa carrageenan, and bay flower. Terra Smart Patch is able to detect food conditions and will change color if the food is spoiled. This allows people to assess the freshness of food without having to touch or smell the food.
This innovation is not just an innovation, but also an effective solution in reducing food waste and carbon emissions. With Terra Smart Patch technology, people can be wiser in managing food, thus reducing the environmental impact of food waste.
“We are very proud of this achievement. We hope this innovation can benefit the wider community, especially in reducing food waste and carbon emissions,” said Arinda Melina Putri, one of the team members.
In addition to winning the gold medal, the Terra Team also won the Best Productivity and Sustainability Project award and the U-Go x Inotek Scholarship from the INOTEX Foundation. This achievement further strengthens the name of Universitas Airlangga in the international arena as one of the universities that excel in the field of innovation.
With this success, the Terra Team is expected to continue to innovate and inspire other students to create solutions to environmental problems faced by Indonesia.
