Surabaya – The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine (FPK) of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) commemorated its 18th Anniversary Thanksgiving Ceremony on Monday (July 27, 2026), celebrating nearly two decades of academic excellence, institutional growth, and unwavering dedication to higher education in fisheries and marine sciences. More than a ceremonial gathering, the event served as a meaningful reunion that brought together faculty leaders, lecturers, educational staff, students, alumni, and retired lecturers and administrative personnel, reaffirming the strong sense of belonging that continues to unite the FPK UNAIR community across generations.
The celebration began with a prayer led by Dr. nat. techn. Muhamad Nur Ghoyatul Amin, S.TP., M.P., M.Sc., expressing gratitude for the faculty’s achievements throughout its 18-year journey. The occasion was also honored by the presence of retired lecturer Wahju Tjahjaningsih, Ir., M.Si., from the Department of Marine Science, alongside senior Aquaculture Department lecturer Agustono, Ir., M.Kes., whose attendance reflected the enduring connection between former and current members of the faculty.
Far beyond an annual tradition, the Thanksgiving Ceremony became a platform for reconnecting retired lecturers and educational staff with the broader FPK UNAIR family. Warm conversations, shared memories, and heartfelt laughter created an atmosphere of nostalgia while celebrating the remarkable progress achieved by the faculty over the years. Strengthening Alumni and Institutional Legacy
One of the highlights of the event was the testimonial session delivered by the Chairman of the FPK UNAIR Alumni Association (IKA FPK UNAIR), Okky Hermawan, S.Pi., M.Si. Reflecting on his years as a student, he shared how academic experiences, campus life, and meaningful interactions within the faculty had shaped his personal values and professional journey. His reflections underscored the importance of maintaining strong relationships between alumni and their alma mater while inspiring current students to continue the tradition of excellence established by previous generations.
The anniversary celebration reached its symbolic peak with the ceremonial cutting of the traditional tumpeng by the Dean of FPK UNAIR, Prof. Dr. Endang Dewi Masithah, Ir., M.P. The first portion of the tumpeng was presented to the faculty’s first Dean, Prof. Dr. Sri Subekti, drh., DEA., as a gesture of deep appreciation for her pioneering leadership and invaluable contribution in laying the foundation for the faculty’s development.
During her remarks, Prof. Endang described the 18th anniversary as a significant milestone representing maturity and responsibility. She emphasized that reaching the age of eighteen symbolizes not only institutional growth but also the ability to make thoughtful decisions, demonstrate integrity, and define a clear vision for the future. According to her, these values will continue to guide FPK UNAIR in advancing education, research, and community engagement while responding to emerging challenges in fisheries and marine sectors.
