The Student Executive Board (BEM) of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPK), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), organized SIGMA 2026 (Surat Gemilang Mahasiswa) on Saturday (May 2, 2026) at the 5th Floor, Building C, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Airlangga. The program featured Dr. Rozi, S.Pi., M.Biotech as the keynote speaker and aimed to enhance students’ administrative competencies, particularly in drafting formal correspondence and optimizing the use of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel to support academic and professional development.

SIGMA is a flagship program initiated by the Ministry of Advocacy and Student Welfare (Adkesma) under BEM FPK UNAIR. Designed to address the growing need for structured and professional administrative skills among university students, the program specifically focuses on equipping participants with the ability to compose formal letters correctly and efficiently while maximizing the features of widely used office applications. In her opening remarks, SIGMA 2026 Project Leader, Firyal Artemisia Ivana, emphasized that the activity was intended to provide students with a clear understanding of proper official document writing standards and to strengthen their proficiency in office software as essential preparation for both academic responsibilities and future careers. She highlighted that administrative literacy is a fundamental competency that supports organizational involvement, academic submissions, research documentation, and professional communication in various institutional settings.

During the material session, the speaker underscored the importance of mastering office software tools to improve student productivity and organizational effectiveness. In the Microsoft Word segment, participants were introduced to structured document formatting, the effective use of styles and headings, automatic table of contents generation, and the practical application of mail merge for drafting formal letters. These features, often underutilized by students, were presented as strategic tools to ensure consistency, efficiency, and professionalism in academic and organizational documentation. Meanwhile, the Microsoft Excel session focused on fundamental data processing skills, including the use of basic formulas, systematic data organization, and efficient data management techniques. Students were guided to understand how structured spreadsheets can support academic research, event management reporting, budgeting, and data-based decision-making processes within student organizations and academic projects.

The event was conducted in an interactive format, combining direct hands-on practice sessions with open discussions and question-and-answer segments. Participants actively followed each demonstration step and engaged enthusiastically in discussions with the speaker, reflecting strong interest in improving their administrative capabilities. The dynamic learning atmosphere fostered practical understanding rather than purely theoretical exposure, ensuring that students could immediately apply the skills gained during the workshop. Through SIGMA 2026, the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences Universitas Airlangga reaffirms its commitment to developing not only academic excellence but also essential professional competencies among its students. By strengthening administrative and document management skills, FPK UNAIR students are expected to become more organized, efficient, and prepared to meet both academic demands and the challenges of entering the professional workforce.
