Character building measures for students by SKI FPK UNAIR

Bagikan

The Islamic Spiritual Division (Seksi Kerohanian Islam/SKI) of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Airlangga (FPK UNAIR), continues to strengthen its role in character building through two flagship programs in 2026: Safari Ukhuwah and Coffee After Sujud. These initiatives are strategically designed to expand engagement among Muslim students within FPK UNAIR while advancing the organization’s vision centered on spiritual development, solidarity, and meaningful social contribution within the academic environment. As part of the broader student development ecosystem, SKI aligns its programs with faculty values and sustainable development principles, ensuring that spiritual growth complements academic excellence in fisheries and marine sciences.

Safari Ukhuwah serves as a structured bonding and mentoring program for SKI board members, conducted periodically within the FPK UNAIR campus environment. The program combines team-building activities with Islamic enrichment sessions aimed at strengthening moral character, leadership integrity, and personal responsibility. Through interactive discussions and reflective learning, participants receive guidance on ethical conduct (akhlaq), effective time management, and the role of students as agents of positive change in society. Safari Ukhuwah functions not only as an internal networking platform but also as a leadership incubation space where values-based governance is cultivated. By reinforcing collaboration among members, the program contributes to SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through strengthened internal organizational synergy. Furthermore, the character development nurtured in Safari Ukhuwah inspires social action initiatives that support SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), particularly through planned community-based outreach and charitable activities rooted in compassion and collective responsibility. In this way, SKI integrates spiritual mentoring with broader social empowerment objectives relevant to the fisheries and coastal community context.

Complementing Safari Ukhuwah, Coffee After Sujud is a routine program held every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday at designated areas within FPK UNAIR following congregational prayers. During these gatherings, SKI provides warm beverages such as tea and coffee to Muslim students who have performed their prayers. Although simple in format, the program has reached hundreds of students and has become a meaningful platform for fostering togetherness and informal dialogue. Coffee After Sujud creates a welcoming space for light yet constructive discussions, encouraging positive peer interaction and strengthening bonds of ukhuwah (brotherhood). Beyond hospitality, the initiative contributes to mental well-being by offering moments of relaxation and supportive social engagement amid academic pressures. This approach reflects SKI’s understanding that holistic student development encompasses spiritual resilience, emotional balance, and social connectedness. By nurturing empathy and mutual care, the program indirectly supports a campus culture grounded in integrity and social awareness.

The primary goal of these two programs is to establish an inclusive, supportive, and sustainable spiritual ecosystem within FPK UNAIR. In a faculty dedicated to marine and fisheries studies, character development plays a crucial role in shaping environmentally responsible graduates. Students equipped with integrity and social consciousness are better positioned to contribute to SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 14 (Life Below Water), particularly in advocating sustainable marine resource management and climate-adaptive fisheries practices. Through Safari Ukhuwah and Coffee After Sujud, SKI FPK UNAIR demonstrates its commitment to building an organizational legacy that extends beyond structural activities, leaving a lasting impact on student character formation. By integrating spiritual enrichment, leadership cultivation, and sustainability awareness, SKI reinforces FPK UNAIR’s broader mission of producing academically competent and socially responsible graduates prepared to contribute to Indonesia’s sustainable fisheries and marine development.
