The Aquaculture Student Association of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Airlangga (HIMAKUA FPK UNAIR), through its Department of Social Affairs and Community Service, successfully organized the “CORAL x SRE PENS” program on March 14, 2026. This initiative was designed to strengthen solidarity among HIMAKUA members while fostering a deeper sense of social awareness and empathy among Aquaculture students toward the surrounding community, particularly underprivileged children. Held during the holy month of Ramadan, the program emphasized meaningful engagement through a series of social, educational, and religious activities that encouraged compassion, generosity, and togetherness. By integrating values of empathy and social responsibility, the event highlighted the important role of students in contributing positively to society beyond academic responsibilities.
The event was conducted in collaboration with the Society of Renewable Energy, Politeknik Elektronika Negeri Surabaya (SRE PENS), reflecting a strong commitment to inter-organizational partnership among student bodies. This collaboration aimed to enhance cooperation by sharing resources, knowledge, experiences, and facilities, ultimately enriching the skills and perspectives of participating members. Through this synergy, the organizers sought to create a more impactful and dynamic program capable of generating innovative ideas and sustainable initiatives. The partnership not only strengthened institutional relationships but also demonstrated how collaborative efforts among student organizations can produce meaningful contributions to both social welfare and environmental awareness.
The CORAL x SRE PENS program took place from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, featuring a well-structured series of engaging activities. The event began with an opening session led by the master of ceremonies, followed by welcoming remarks from the chairpersons of both HIMAKUA and SRE PENS, as well as representatives of the hosting foundation. The program then continued with a collective Qur’an recitation session, which created a spiritually uplifting atmosphere for participants. This was followed by interactive ice-breaking sessions and games designed to entertain and engage the children from the foundation. The participants showed high enthusiasm during these sessions, actively taking part in the activities with joy and excitement. To appreciate their participation, prizes were distributed to the winners of the games, adding a sense of encouragement and celebration to the event.
A key highlight of the program was the educational session on waste management, which aimed to raise awareness among children about the importance of environmental cleanliness and sustainable waste practices. The material was delivered in an interactive and accessible manner, ensuring that the children could easily understand the concepts of sorting and managing waste properly. This educational initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) through promoting responsible waste management, SDG 13 (Climate Action) by addressing environmental pollution issues, and SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing essential environmental knowledge to young learners. By integrating environmental education into social activities, the program successfully combined community service with sustainability awareness.
As the time for iftar approached, members of HIMAKUA and SRE PENS, along with the children, worked together to prepare food and beverages for breaking the fast. This moment fostered a strong sense of togetherness and cooperation among all participants. After breaking the fast, the program continued with congregational Maghrib prayer at a nearby mosque, followed by a communal meal. The event then proceeded with a practical waste-sorting activity, allowing participants to directly apply the knowledge they had gained earlier in the session. This hands-on approach reinforced the importance of environmental responsibility in daily life.
At the conclusion of the event, a documentation session was held, followed by the symbolic handover of donations to the foundation management. The donations consisted of basic necessities, clothing, and monetary contributions collected through a prior open donation initiative organized by HIMAKUA and SRE PENS. Additionally, snack packages were distributed to the children as a token of appreciation and care. This closing segment underscored the core values of generosity and social solidarity that defined the entire program. More than just a one-day event, CORAL x SRE PENS served as a platform for strengthening faith, building meaningful relationships, and inspiring a culture of giving among students.
Overall, the CORAL x SRE PENS initiative reflects the commitment of FPK UNAIR students to community engagement and sustainable development. The program not only enhanced spiritual and social values during Ramadan but also demonstrated how academic communities can actively contribute to societal well-being and environmental stewardship. It is hoped that such initiatives will continue to grow and inspire future collaborations that foster empathy, innovation, and collective responsibility for a better society.
