The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine (FPK), Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), continues to strengthen its global engagement through the International Internship Program by welcoming five students from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu on April 1, 2026. This initiative reflects FPK UNAIR’s commitment to expanding international academic networks while fostering a globally enriched learning environment within the faculty.
The welcoming session was held at FPK UNAIR and attended by aquaculture lecturers, the MBKM coordinator, Head of the Study Program, Faculty Ambassador, and faculty leaders, including the Vice Deans. During the session, Abdul Manan, S.Pi., M.Si., Ph.D. delivered an overview of the Aquaculture Study Program, highlighting its academic strengths and scientific specializations in fisheries and marine studies. The session provided international students with a comprehensive understanding of FPK UNAIR’s academic ecosystem and research focus.
In addition, Dwi Yuli Pujiastuti, S.Pi., M.P., M.Sc., as the Faculty Ambassador, explained the structure of the internship program in detail. The program is designed to integrate academic learning, practical field experience, and cultural exposure. Throughout their stay, the students will attend lectures alongside FPK UNAIR students, participate in internship activities at the Brackish Water Aquaculture Center (BPAP) Situbondo, and explore Surabaya to gain insights into Indonesia’s social and cultural environment.
In her remarks, Vice Dean I of FPK UNAIR, Dr. Laksmi Sulmartiwi, S.Pi., M.P., expressed her hope that the program would provide meaningful academic and cultural experiences for the international participants. She emphasized that such initiatives play an important role in broadening students’ perspectives on fisheries practices in Indonesia while strengthening cross-cultural understanding and academic collaboration.
The International Internship Program offers mutual benefits for both incoming students and the academic community at FPK UNAIR. The interactions fostered during the program create opportunities for knowledge exchange, collaborative learning, and the sharing of diverse perspectives in advancing sustainable fisheries and marine development.
This initiative aligns with FPK UNAIR’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) through the provision of international learning opportunities, SDG 14 (Life Below Water) through strengthening competencies in marine and fisheries sciences, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through cross-border academic collaboration.
Through this program, FPK UNAIR continues to build an inclusive, collaborative, and globally competitive educational environment. The International Internship Program is expected to serve as a strategic step in strengthening the faculty’s position within international academic networks while contributing to the advancement of fisheries and marine science on a global scale.
