During the holy month of Ramadan, the Social Division of HIMATEKHIKAN enthusiastically launched its first community service program, “LAUT BERKAH,” at Roudhotul Jannah Orphanage. Designed to foster empathy, social care, and stronger bonds, the program brought smiles, laughter, and meaningful learning experiences to children and teenagers alike.

On March 21, 2025, the students of HIMATEKHIKAN visited Roudhotul Jannah Orphanage to implement their inaugural community activity under the banner of LAUT BERKAH, which stands for “Layanan Urun Tangan Berbagi Kasih” or “Helping Hands to Share Love.” The program aimed to enhance children’s awareness of social responsibility, encourage empathy, and strengthen connections between students and the community. Sixteen children from the orphanage participated in a series of engaging activities that combined entertainment with education.

The event began with a warm welcome from Ryan, the event chairperson, who stated, “This activity marks HIMATEKHIKAN’s first program in Ramadan. We hope it brings blessings to everyone and runs successfully until the end.” Mr. Alwi followed with a short prayer and remarks, saying, “Alhamdulillah, students have come to entertain the children here, especially during this holy month, spreading happiness and joy.” The atmosphere was lively and filled with anticipation, with children eagerly participating in every segment of the program.

Educational activities included an “Guess the Fish” game, which highlighted the nutritional benefits of fish as a high-quality protein source rich in omega-3 fatty acids, essential for heart and brain health. The program emphasized the importance of incorporating fish into daily diets to prevent degenerative diseases and enhance immunity. Collaborating with the social-economic team, “Cookies Ikan,” students demonstrated simple healthy fish-based recipes, allowing participants to better understand the nutritional value of fish while enjoying practical, hands-on learning.

Beyond education, the program featured storytelling sessions, quizzes, interactive games, and rewards for enthusiastic participants. The event concluded with a communal breaking of the fast, fostering a sense of togetherness and mutual care. The experience highlighted the critical role of community engagement in promoting healthy lifestyles while teaching gratitude, generosity, and social awareness. HIMATEKHIKAN’s initiative during this sacred month served not only as a joyful activity but also as an invaluable lesson in empathy, service, and the spirit of sharing.

The day left a lasting impression on both students and children, demonstrating the transformative power of combining education, community service, and cultural celebration. Through LAUT BERKAH, HIMATEKHIKAN continues to exemplify the values of Universitas Airlangga in promoting social responsibility, holistic education, and student-driven community impact.
