AquaCraft EduCare: Aquascape Craft and Education Care was held on Friday, August 14, 2026, at SDN Keputran 1 Surabaya. The community service program was initiated by the Student Scientific Study (Kajian Keilmiahan Mahasiswa/KAKEMA) of the Aquaculture and Aquascape Division. Through educational presentations, interactive fun games, and hands-on aquascape activities, the program introduced students to the fundamentals of fisheries and aquaculture while fostering an early understanding of aquatic ecosystem balance. The students of SDN Keputran 1 participated enthusiastically while maintaining order throughout the activity.
Educational Session on the Fundamentals of Fisheries Aquaculture
The program officially began with Master of Ceremony Dhewa Meidenta Satya Benardy, followed by remarks from Head of the Aquaculture and Aquascape Division Rahmat Nurkholis and Event Chairperson Faizi Abyaz Santoso. The first session featured a pre-test designed to assess the participants’ initial knowledge. Childana Faradhisa and Nila Najwa then delivered the main educational session, covering the fundamentals of fisheries aquaculture, the functions of aquatic plants, and the importance of maintaining clean aquatic ecosystems. The students listened attentively throughout the presentation and actively participated in the question-and-answer session, demonstrating their enthusiasm for learning about aquatic environments.
“Fisheries aquaculture is an activity of raising and caring for aquatic organisms, especially fish, from the seed stage until they are ready for harvest,” said Nila.
Hands-on Aquascape Making in the Aquascape Art Session
Following the educational presentation, the activity continued with a hands-on aquascape arrangement session guided by the equipment team, consisting of Septian Raditya Pragaswara, Abdan Fawwazut T., and Abraham Crisanta Putra. During the session, students were introduced directly to the process of arranging aquarium substrates, beginning with bacterial houses, base fertilizers, and soil, followed by the application of starter bacteria and the planting of various ornamental aquatic plants. The practice was delivered step by step to help students understand the aquascape-making process more easily. At the end of the session, the aquascape created during the activity was presented by the committee to SDN Keputran 1 as an educational facility for the school.
“The final substrate can be adjusted according to individual preferences. It can use beach sand, gravel, Malang sand, and many other materials,” said Septian.
Advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
AquaCraft EduCare also contributed to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13 (Climate Action) through environmental awareness education, SDG 14 (Life Below Water) through an introduction to aquatic ecosystems and organisms, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through collaboration among FPK UNAIR students, academic supervisors, and the partner elementary school. The involvement of multiple stakeholders strengthened the educational network and supported sustainable community engagement in environmental awareness. Through this collaboration, AquaCraft EduCare is expected to create a positive impact by encouraging younger generations to understand and contribute to the preservation of aquatic environments.
