The Fisheries Processing Club (FPC) of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPK), Universitas Airlangga (Unair), has once again showcased its creativity in fish-based product innovation. On Friday, September 26, 2025, the FPC production team introduced “Fishky” (Fish Pocky)—a snack inspired by the popular Pocky biscuit stick but uniquely crafted using tilapia fish flour as one of its primary ingredients. This innovation aims to transform fishery by-products into appealing, nutritious snacks that align with modern consumer preferences.
As the final production project under the Research and Development (R&D) Department of FPC 2025, the Fishky initiative represents more than just product creation—it serves as a hands-on entrepreneurship and innovation learning experience for students. During the production session, the FPC team successfully produced 19 packs of Fishky, with each pack containing five sticks. The product comes in three popular flavors—strawberry, chocolate, and matcha—each designed to blend enjoyable taste with the nutritional value of fish-based ingredients. This product not only highlights the versatility of fishery resources but also reinforces the importance of value-added product development in the fisheries sector.
The entire production process was carried out smoothly, with active involvement from FPC members at every stage—from product formulation and raw material processing to packaging and marketing design. Through this activity, students gained valuable experience in food product development, process optimization, and market-oriented innovation. It also strengthened their understanding of how fisheries-based raw materials can be transformed into consumer-ready products that are both sustainable and competitive.
“Fishky” stands as a tangible outcome of FPC Unair’s commitment to promoting creativity and entrepreneurship among fisheries students. By combining scientific knowledge, innovation, and practical business perspectives, the product demonstrates that fisheries-based materials can go beyond traditional processing and reach wider markets through innovative food formats. The FPC team hopes that Fishky will inspire future student-led innovations that contribute to the advancement of fisheries product diversification and sustainable food innovation in Indonesia and beyond.
