The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Airlangga (FPK UNAIR), continues to demonstrate its strong commitment to advancing international research collaboration through active participation in The 13th International Fisheries Symposium (IFS 2025), held on October 6–9, 2025, at Muladi Dome, Diponegoro University, Semarang.

Organized by the ASEAN Fisheries Education Network (ASEAN-FEN), IFS 2025 carried the theme “ASEAN Fisheries and Marine Resources for Global Sustainability.” The symposium stands as one of the most prestigious scientific gatherings in Southeast Asia, bringing together around 500 participants from 13 ASEAN countries, as well as representatives from Japan, China, India, and France. The event served as a key platform for knowledge exchange, collaborative research, and policy dialogue in the field of fisheries and marine sciences.

FPK UNAIR sent 20 faculty members as official delegates to engage in scientific presentations, panel discussions, and networking sessions with representatives from other ASEAN-FEN member universities. Their participation highlights the faculty’s continuous efforts to contribute to the advancement of scientific research and policy innovation in sustainable fisheries and marine resource management. This involvement also reinforces FPK UNAIR’s vision to foster academic excellence and expand global partnerships in marine and aquatic sciences.

The symposium was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Prof. Dr. Endang Dewi Masithah, Ir., M.P., along with Universitas Airlangga Vice Rector I, Prof. Mochammad Amin Alamsjah, Ir., M.Si., Ph.D, who also serves as the Chairman of ASEAN-FEN for the 2024–2026 period. Their presence emphasized Universitas Airlangga’s pivotal role in strengthening ASEAN-FEN’s academic and research collaboration network across the region.

IFS 2025 featured prominent keynote speakers from Indonesia and abroad, including Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, M.M.; Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Arif Havas Oegroseno; Prof. Matsuishi Takashi Fritz from Hokkaido University, Japan; and Prof. Wenju Cai from Ocean University of China. Through this international forum, FPK UNAIR actively showcased its research excellence, strengthened its international partnerships, and contributed to shaping sustainable fisheries and marine management practices across ASEAN and beyond.

FPK UNAIR’s participation in IFS 2025 aligns with Universitas Airlangga’s mission as a World Class University—to be globally competitive, innovative, and impactful in addressing global sustainability challenges. The involvement also reflects UNAIR’s continued dedication to promoting science-based solutions and strengthening Indonesia’s leadership role in advancing sustainable development in the fisheries and marine sectors.
